    Default Substitute Factions

I know RSII is being released any day, as the various threads indicate in here. But one of the threads I have read, there was indication that Syracuse and Bosporan factions would be available as substitute for Sparta, etc.

Is this still happening? What am I missing...we hadn't seen them in the Beta testing launcher, and no information as to their respective units. Should I assume then, that they are the units seen in those respective Free Greek cities campaign???

If Syracuse is playable...they'll be surrounded by Rome right out of the gate in RSII as opposed to RS1.6a that gave them a better starting position on Sicily, with Carthage at one end and few rebel cities on the Island, while Rome was only still on its Peninsula.

If the plan has changed, and these two alternative factions are no longer available, then so be it...game has played well, and offers so much. I was just curious, as Syracuse was my favorite in RS1.6a

    Thoughts....

At some point, time and the 'will' be there, there were swap factions in mind. It is, however, a fairly complicated matter to construct them, so it'll take a while. I know Paedric started on Syracuse (which I still have somewhere), but it was just impossible to work on that and the main mod consecutively. Too many changes all the time, and our focus needs to be releasing this.

Thanks for the quick reply and rational answer...if it comes, it comes...if it doesn't, it doesn't. Again, you guys have been putting so much time into this already and I am sure can continue to make changes/tweaks for the next decade if you wanted, but as you have indicated it must be released...and i'm very happy with everything seen in the Beta.

Btw, dvk, do you have any other factions you would like to see in there? I think I've read somewhere that you'd like Bythinia in? Any other that could be done? It would be kinda interesting to have some other German faction in there.

Bithynia, Massalia, Bosporon, Syracuse, Athens could be one.....unfortunately, the Free Barbs and the way the units are set up done easily allow for a Barbarian swap faction.
It 'could' be done, but not easily.

All rather exciting...but you guys shouldn't kill yourselves over it. Perhaps when/if a patch is made for RSII it can be included.

As a Beta tester...u can throw it at us to take a look at, and see if it is worth it. I for one would love to test Massalia or Syracuse.

Galatia was also being considered if I recall correctly...

It'd better be! Can't wait for this Celtic faction to be in the game. Celts in a sea of Hellenistic factions should be a great campaign expirence!

    Just a question:

If Galatia will be made as a swap faction,..what units will it have?I mean he will have the basic celtic units like the light swordsman,spearman,..but will it have some sort of unique unit? Also galatias basic celtic units like the ones I mentioned will have a different shield texture and stuff?I don't know if you understand what I mean. For example:The celtic light swordsman of the arverni have a green colored shield,..while the boi version has a blue colored one.So the galatian version will have a different version? If yes than wouldn't that mean lots of more skining?

The spartan and free greek names.
I have an errorless ctd, maybe it is not the names, but maybe it is. I'll need to look into it further.

Not necessarily. The Free barbarian faction has many unique textures, as I recall, for the Galatians. They could be used for the swap faction.

Yes but then when you fight the free barbarians with Galatians than you basicly will have same looking units?

The Free Barbarians would have to be removed.

You would treat this much as you would the Roman campaign, and use the Free Barbs for a 'Galatia' faction. Because of the incredible problems that would occur with DMB and EDU settings, this would be the only way to do it without virtually writing a whole new mod.

I suppose due to culture differences you couldn't just overwrite Sparta, could you? wow, that is a tall order.

It would mean a LOT of changes. Whereas I would be able to replace the Free Barbs and their settlements rather quickly.
