Hey guys,
I was in the mindset of running my England turtle campaign, just keeping hold of Caen, and taking over the British Isles, micromanaging the place and sending large armies out on foreign ventures or crusades without actually striving for further 'conquest'.
But someone mentioned a day or two ago, an idea that I found quite fascinating, and would be interesting to play and write about as it's unconventional to the ordinary playstyle of Total War (but not outside the boundaries of the games capabilities).
A viking AAR, playing as Norway and taking over Scandanavia, probably kill off Denmark and use the fortress south of Denmark (forgot the name) as the 'doorway' into Norway to stop invasions from Europe (unless they come by sea!)
Once I had this 'island' (as far as the game-map is concerned), I could do one of two things:
1.) Take over Ireland, and use it as a base from which to take over Britain... Or something more interesting to me which ensures I keep my settlement numbers low:
2.) Invade whatever, and whoever; sack their settlements and demolish all their buildings before upping and leaving. A real 'scortched earth' campaign. Obviously, there's gonna be a hell of a lot of rebels roaming around.
What do you chaps think? I know nothing of Norweigan history, and to my knowledge the 'viking age' of raiding and pillaging was quickly coming to a close around 1100; so on some levels I wouldn't be as picky or accurate as an England campaign, but at least it'd be something different?
What do you think?
