    Default Thracian Thorakitai-Gods Among Men

The entire thracian battle plan revolves around their bloody thorakitai being invincible!

What exactly is up with this unit? Surround it with two of my greek thorakitai and unit of greek hoplites-my men all dead. Surround one with peroikoi hoplites, athenians, and phalangites-they kill them all with 40 men to spare. Charge them in the back? Oh look, there are heavy cavalry charging us, how cute. How does one beat these monsters!
    Men plan.

    Fatelaughs.

a strong phalanx unit should be able to pin them behind the spears
although i dont know, ive had trouble with thracia in my roman campaign
i will try a few set ups out to see if i can find a way to beat them
"I, Pinkie Pie, declare that these treats are fit for a king, or a queen, or a princess!"
"Me? Ruin? I'm not the ruiner, I'm the ruinee! Or is it ruinness? Ruinette?"
"She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
"Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"

Use mass peltast against them 2 light down the rank and light cavalry charge. Try it in custom battle!!

Use archers with a good missile attack to weaken them, and then charge them with heavy calvary

The thing is, you need to sacrifice more animals than the thracians by about 2 so the gods favour you more =P

Seriously though, weaken em first. A wall of javelin from foot skirmishers or cav would do the job and pin them with phalanx, even levy phalangites, and charge in the rear (a proper formed up charge at the right distance and the spears are couched under the arm) It will be murder...

edit; Im assuming your playing as the Greeks..

I prefer thureophoroi instead of light skirmishers. They can fight well after run out of armor

Whats the big deal? Those thracian dudes are no match for experienced phalanxes/hoplites.

Archers can attack them from a long distance, they should be weakened when they finally reach the archers, then just run away with your archers and strike with heavy calvary

I'll believe that if we're talking of units with 3 golden chevrons

If one is playing as the GCS, the time you get to face Thrace, is when you alrdy have control of all of greece, including Byzantium.

What does that mean? Means that the army you gathered on the first turn, from all the starting cities, has atleast 2 silver chevrons and 1 golden chevron tops, and this goes for militia phalanx aswell. There's no way the thracian unit in question can destroy that phalanx.

It also means that you control Larissa and Pella which SHOULD possess city barracks, so you can recruit phalanxes.

If one plays his cards right on the GCS campaign, he will attack Thrace early in the game. I usually do so after capturing the indie greek cities in Asia minor. So, thracian stacks dont usually possess great experience.

jeez these guys were some of the scariest warriors in history...

That nasty hafted chopping weapon they wield was responsible for the Romans upping their Armour when deployed to the thracian theater.

Screaming hordes of hairy barbarians armed with weapons which could with one blow cut u in half, backed by javelins and wearing decent quality Armour - these guys have no fear due to their barbarian religion of death is glory.

I'd be scared of these guys - your militia pike men are gonna cry like babies.

Seriously though - tactics - weaken them at range - slingers, bows, javelins - pikes pin them them cavalry charge as note previously

I think you meant the Dacians, a branch of the Thracians

Rhomphaia is not a Falx but is equivalent in effectiveness and can also be used as a spear...

Why split up your theater onto two continents though just to capture some indie greek cities? Sure, the wonders are nice, but then you're fighting a war on at least 1 more front.

Riches my friend, riches... its a butload of money. And whats the problem of one more front? Its not like Indie greeks are a major threat. Yes there's a risk of entering war with TSE, but as soon as you capture Ephesus are their other cities in that region, they'll be cut off. You CAN!! afford it!

True, the spice road is fairly lucrative. The indie greeks definitely aren't a threat, I would just think fighting TSE in addition to your enemies in the northern theater would be a pain in the ass, but as you said, it would be a lot of additional income. I don't recall which one Ephesus is though...on my Macedonian campaign, I just keep pushing east and TSE keeps dying.
