    Default BI "religions"

We have allready converted BI religions to government constitutions
there are 3 of them (more can be created but more than 3 have no real effect in game, they are just there by name but nothing else)

so we have oligarchy, democracy and tyranny
in tyranny we include monarchy and despotism, because greeks would name those regimes as tyranny sometimes....

the player can destroy a "government building" (ex religious building) and build another of his choice....
however each faction (and province if i remember right) will have a favored option out of that 3
so it will cause unrest and everything if somebody has the brilliant idea to try make Sparta a tyranny or Persia a democracy.....

for more details Romanus can say stuff when he will be available

That sounds awesome, but I have just one question. Wouldn't that make it awkward should the dominant "government" of a province is different from the city-state's actual "government"?

Example: Sparta (faction) takes Athens (city/province). Sparta's dominant "government" is oligarchy. But Athens (province's) "government" is still democracy.

Do you see what I'm saying? I'm not sure if I've explained clearly enough...

Can't wait to see this mod! Got a date set yet for the beta?

i understand...there were two different opinions within the team

one to have the "religions" locked and set for each faction and the other to have freedom to build whatever player wants...
eventually we reached an agreement so we can build whatever government we want but there are reasons to build a specific one

....i am unable to tell u more because i dont know whether there is a favored governement for each city as well as each faction....the coder must explain this -i myself understand half of what he writes -

i think the option of having a fixed/locked government type would cause more problems

but anyway when Sparta would conquer Athens could set a tyranny (which is usual for Athens in 6th century) as they did after PW....moreover we dont call capturing a greek city as "capture" actually but instead we call "gain hegemony"....since usually the greeks didnt go try to ruin the other greek cities...just meet in field and break each others heads

Wait... So,... if the idea isn't in controlling provinces but gaining hegemony, then maybe you should incorporate the acquirement of Protectorates into the victory conditions.

    Example:
Spartan Victory conditions - control x number of provinces and have acquire Athens as your protectorate

But we're getting off topic. I'll make a new thread...

FANTASTIC! Fabulous ideas and I love the way you implement them. One question though. Are you going to utilize the other possibilities of the BI engine? Like razing cities? Or the creation of a Horde? Would you consider making the northern barbarians horde-capable? If you implement city razing, what will the penalties be (because it was, indeed, a very rare occurance in the classical Greek timeframe...).

Gosh, this will be a great mod!

i dont think hordes would apply to illyrians, thracians and persians.....well the may wipe loot and destroy cities but not move with whole population and establsih there as they can do in BI....

    city razing
well its not usual until hellenistic times but it was possible....
not usual to siege and destroy cities but recorded.....also thebans closely avoided that after end of persian invasion....

I love this mod, but as for government types, why not add the bonuses to the actual government buildings. I know in SPQR they were able to create penalties for Romans controlling barbarian buildings. Why not just have each faction get a different type of bonus from any governmant building according to their own government style? This will represent unrest due to a change in structure more acurrately. This way both the player and the AI implement this sytem. I know the AI does not destroy buildings.

It did happen a few times. The Spartans wiped Plataea off the map in the Peloponnesian War.

Perhaps you could have them as culture types. Like civilised for greeks, barbarian for thracians etc and er poeni for carthage (just examples). this therefore makes it easier for greeks to capture each others territories, but much harder for barbarians to take civilised cities and hold them and vice versa - representing both government types and general cutlure altogether.
