Ahh are you guys still updating Xgm? or is it just Xc![]()
And doesnt Xc hav more features than xgm?
NOOOOOOOOOO WAYYYYYYYYY!!!! XGM >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> XC. omg i cant believe that they have elite unit in full number, that suck!!!
Well, thank you for your kind words.
Niceties aside, historically elite units were not any smaller than line ones of similar size, rather it was often the opposite as rulers took all care in maintaining their "prestige" units.
What limited their unit was economical or political considerations rather than some inherent superhuman quality of the elites themselves.
In XC we went for a more sober representation of elites than XGM, meaning that while being extremely effective units on their own they will perform poorly if not used in their intended role.
What limits their number (especially in the later builds) is their cost within the rebalanced economy.
This means that before you can afford high quality armies you will need to build your economy to support them, and even a well developed empire won't be able to keep around an "all elite" stack without that crippling their purse unless they have huge cash reserves in store.
Finally, XC is not just "XGM plus", it's a complete overhaul that is made for more strategically oriented players and ones that likes battles decided by smart tactics, so if you play it don't expect to use the same mindset as in XGM or you will fare poorly.
Okay 1 more problem, some units in both Roman and Carthage lacked the Campaign Label Picture so they are displayed as "Peasant" in the unit card!!!. For the sake of balance, I think elite units should be reduce in size because if they are used to assault wall it will be impossible 2 stop them with crappy garrison troop
knguyen_93: XC is still a work in progress, so there are a some unfinished bits here and there. If you find things that need to be done you can file reports in the XC bug reports thread, and I think they have a whole thread for reporting missing UI cards.
Regarding elite units XC and XGM have a somewhat different philosophy about how to limit their use. Of course, historically the limitation was usually* economic, so in many ways the most realistic approach is just to make them very expensive. However, the 20 unit stack limit in RTW means that it generally pays to have a full stack of elites anyway, because one stack of elite units will crush any number of stacks of non-elite units. So in XGM I decided to force a trade-off between mass and quality, at the stack level, by limiting the size of elite units.
One of the great things about having multiple versions of XGM around is that you can try both and see which one you like.
*Usually, but not always. Some elites were drawn exclusively from particular social classes or ethnicities and sometimes there were other factors besides economics that limited their numbers. The Spartan citizen class, for example, actually shrank dramatically as Sparta became more wealthy.
knguyen_93: Making direct comparison between XGM and XC is like comparing Apples and Oranges.
The two mods are meant to be played in completely different ways, if you want to feel like Leonidas or Alexander XGM is the mod of your choice, while XC is more for the Caesar (or Mithradates as Suppanut would probably say) types.
kk, i dont mean anything here, I enjoy playing XC very much, new traits and new units make up an awesome gameplay !!!
