    Default crashing.

    anybody else ever have the problem that the game sometimes crashes during going between the campaign map and the battlefield and vice versa? it's really really really annoying when it happens after a tough battle and i don't get the chance to save. basically i just get the usual "this program is not responding" error.

    any ideas on how to prevent these crashes? any video/audio settings perhaps?

    Yeah I have them quite frequently. My experience is, save before every large battle. Every single one of them.

    Secondly, never fight two battles in a row when you're not on your turn. I once had a heroic victory when I was attacked by one stack, was attacked by another one, had another heroic victory, and then the game crashed while going from the battle screen to campaign screen.

    With me, Audio/Video settings made no difference. What I usually do when I win a heroic victory and if it crashes is to reload the game to before the battle, toggle console and write auto_win defender or auto_win attacker depending if I am attacking of being attacked, and you can then 'recoup' your victory that way.

    Hope it helps.

    Saving right before a battle actually increases the chance to get a battle-related CTD...you should have all fixes installed and you have to wait on the battle map until the music has turned down at the results screen (aprox. 30 sec.). This solves most of the memory-leak problems of RTW.

    Changing your exe has also a good influence, especially ALEX is very stable.

    i still get CTD quit frequently using the Alex.exe, it not too bad for the first 50 years but then it seems to get worse. I stop saving before battles, but sometimes in the AI turn i will have 1 big battle during the AI turn and it will CTD, i load and do the battle again not ctd but then will have another big battle and it does CTD so i have to do both battle again. Also get crashes deciding the fate of captured settlements quite regularly.

    just had one while scanning over the campaign map, mouse just locked then CTD. I had left the game running for about 2 hours without doing anything. Early it crashed while I was quitting the game, i got back to my PC and it was on the desktop and the house was spinning and i could click anything, brought up the task manager and it was RTW was not responding, and then when i tried to restart it. it CTD right away, had to restart PC to get it to work.

    @ balbor:
    Did you modify the game by yourself? Looks as if there are some files changed in your build...if not, and you didn't installed any mini-mods, run validateInstall.bat found in the main RTW folder

    @s0meguy
    Did you wait before this crash until the music had stopped? RTW has a memory leak, no chance to do anything 'real' against it. And try also not to play longer than two hours in one session.

    @AreosLakedaimon
    Same goes for you, waiting at the end of a battle decreases the chance of getting a memory-linked CTD

    If anyone has a more individual problem, please open a new thread in the tech-subforum, thanks!
