    Icon5 RTW & 2010: Compatibility Questions

Hi all, I'm on the planning stages of building myself a new PC. And since RTW is an old game, I'd like to make sure that my new PC would be able to run it still. (I love the game.)

I've combed through this forum for any potential problems and spotted a thread or two where a new machine seems to have trouble with the game.

So if I may ask, are there any known compatibility issues with RTW and new hardware? Does the game work equally well with AMD's ATI and Nvidia? What about cards on Crossfire or SLI? Any nasty experiences you guys could share?

Anyways, here are the relevant specs I currently have in mind for my new machine:
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64
i7-920 (probably will overclocked to 3.6)
HD 5770 (will be in crossfire in the future)
    Raid 0 1TB Seagate Barracuda (500 x 2)

    Any potential dangers here? Thoughts?

    Thanks. :D

I play RTW on the following rig:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Intel Core i7 Extreme processor 975(3.33GHz,8MB L2 cache,6.4GT/sec)
    Memory : 6144MB (3 x 2048) 1067MHz DDR3 Tri-Channel
Media Card Reader : 19-in-1 Media Card Reader
    Hard Drive : 2TB (2x1TB) Serial ATA Raid 0 (7200RPM) Dual HDD
Optical Drive1: 6X Blu-Ray ROM combo (Blu-ray read only, DVD, CD read & write)
    Optical Drive2: DVD+/-RW (DVD,CD read/write)
    Graphics : 1.8 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX295
Operating System : English Genuine Windows Vista SP1 Home Premium (64 BIT) - upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium (64 Bit)
    Dell 3008WFP

While RTW is an old game and won't use more than one core of memory it runs fine on my PC - I play at 2560x1600 resolution with everything maxed out. It runs smoothly.

I did use nHancer with my Nvidia card but they need to update the software as the latest version does not work with Nvidia drivers from 257.21 onwards.

    If you've not used Vista or 7 before there are two simple rules before installing the game;

    1) disable UAC
    2) create your own program files folder and install the game there.

    Also
    3) keep the vanilla RTW in it's own folder - take a copy and install any mods onto the copy.

That's a monster Brusilov! Good to hear it's not having any problems with your machine. I might get a GTX460 instead though, just to be sure; it seems some older games have more trouble with ATI's stuffs.

So how large of an army can your rig handle?

    Thanks for the input. ;D

I honestly don't know how many soldiers it can handle. Personally, I hate to play with more than 1v1 full stacks.

There have been times in the past that I've fought 1v2 with the second army hitting my lines just as I destroyed the first - I did win that battle but there wasn't much left of my army as I was playing Rome against two Bactrian armies with elephants in RTR 6 Gold. Those elephants can cause alot of damage if you've not any pila left for the second wave....

I have played with an AI controlled reinforcement but I hated ot see the AI run my archers full pelt into a enemy phalanx without even firing one arrow. Once you've seen that you never want to do that again. I could only get units when I withdraw my own units (one for one) but that seems to defeat the purpose.

I somehow think that if I wanted to play 2v2 or whatever I may have to drop the resolution down to 1920x1200 - which would still be good enough.
