    Default Help Steam User

I have Steam and I need to install this thing correctly, how do I go about doing it?

I have read Meneth's Compendium and it's instructions doesn't make any sense, it says this

    1. In the M2:TW folder you should see 3 .exe files. "m2.exe", "kingdoms.exe" and "launcher.exe"
    2. Create a folder called "backup" and place the "launcher.exe" in there.
    3. Rename the "kingdoms.exe" to "launcher.exe"
    4. Now go to SS 6.3 and find the ".bat" file (icon should be a gear thingy) and open that.
    5. Copy this bit (the last bit will be different to TATW but should be similar)
    6. @mods\Stainless_Steel_6\Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg
    7. Now go to your "Steam Games" list and right click kingdoms, select "properties" and then "set launch options"
    8. In the box that appears paste the bit you copied.
    9. In the M2:TW folder you should see 3 .exe files. "m2.exe", "kingdoms.exe" and "launcher.exe"
    10. Create a folder called "backup" and place the "launcher.exe" in that
    11. Rename the "kingdoms.exe" to "launcher.exe"
    12. Now go SS 6.3 and find the ".bat" file(icon should be a gear thingy) and open that.
    13. Copy this bit(the last bit will be different to TATW but should be similar)
    14. @mods\SS6.3\default.cfg
    15. Now go to your "Steam Games" list and right click kingdoms, select "properties" and then "set launch options"
    16. In the box that appears paste the bit you copied.
Now save that and go back to your games list, click on Kingdoms then launch, it should bypass the launcher and take you straight into SS.
First of all why are there 2 sets of instructions, basically saying the same thing.

Secondly I cant find the ".bat" file and don't understand that part

What I did after the mod installed was I created a backup folder and placed my original 'launcher' in it and renamed kingdoms. I also went to my launch options for kingdoms and copied this bit, "@mods\SS6.3\default.cfg"

Also I don't understand a lot of how I can change my game settings because I am using steam I just launch into the mod right away, how do I change between late and early era, and how do I change my game settings like RR and watchtowers and the other options?

There are many other bugs in the game, I cant seem to recruit certain units that my barracks says I should be able to, mostly militia units I'm not able to recruit, not units like gunpowder infantry which make an appearance after certain events.

No need to double post, you can use the edit button for your first post.

Do you have RR disabled? If so, that is glitchy and you will not be able to recruit all units.

I have it disabled, but how do I enable it now? I'm using steam and the thing takes me straight to the game..

I couldn't understand that either so I just moved the SS6.3 folder to the mods folder holding the kingdoms campains (americas, crusades....) and rename the SS6.3 folder to americas and rename the americas folder to something else.
then just choose the americas campain as normal and it will launch SS6.3

there is no .bat file for 6.3.

delete launcher.exe (back it up first)
    rename kingdoms.exe to launcher.exe
    put @mods\SS6.3\default.cfg under launch options.

Hi guys, I have another steamuser here... could someone help him out? Thanks
    Hi Bane,

Figured you was the right guy to ask

I've spend hours of searching on the forum as well as trying make the different solutions work, so that I may finally play SS with my MTW2 on steam.

Somehow I just keep ing it up and seing no solutions what so ever . In the end I even managed to screw up the game so as I write this I am currently downloading the game again from scratch on steam /cry.

So I am getting really desperate as I love MTW2 and really would love to try out the new SS (played it looooong time ago).

So far this is what I tried to do:

Changed the Kingdoms.exe to launcher.exe first.

Then I went to the SS6.3 folder (placed in the mods under the steamgame). Opened the Default.cfg with notepad and added the line: @mods\Stainless_Steel_6\Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg to it and saved it and added the same line to the launch options under steam. No Result.

Did the same with the line: @mods\SS6.3\default.cfg . Stil no result .

So what am I doing wrong? . Does the '@' refer to the actual folder name in my case E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\blablablaetcetc or ?

I'm sorry if im asking stupid questions but I aint the smartest kid in town when it comes to computers.

Anyway I hope to hear from you soon and thanks in advance!

thats the problem right there. he shouldnt be opening and adding anything to default.cfg.

once he renames kingdoms.exe to launcher.exe he just has to add @mods\SS6.3\default.cfg to his launch options in steam. that is assuming he has 6.3 installed in his mods folder.

gord96, is there a post around I could use to add it to the steam faq (as in a step by step explanation like those already in the steam topic)?

1- In the m2tw folder you should see 3 exes. "medieval2.exe", "kingdoms.exe" and "launcher.exe" (should be steam/steamapps/common/medieval ii total war/)
2- Create a folder called "backup" and place the "launcher.exe" in that
    3- Rename the "kingdoms.exe" to "launcher.exe"
4- now go to your "Steam Games" list and right click kingdoms, select "properties" and then "set launch options"
5- In the box that appears paste @mods\SS6.3\default.cfg
6-Now save that and go back to your games list, click on kingdoms then launch, it should bypass the launcher and take you straight to the mod.

always launch your game from Steam. Do not use the 6.3 icon.

    Thanks Gord

Also that stupid bug where I cannot recruit certain units even with RR enabled still plagues me, I will have to make a thread in the Bug Report Forums.

Dragon. Did you start a new campaign after you enabled RR? you need to for the changes to take effect.

Yes I did start a new campaign with RR on, and with Late Era, Savage AI and perm watchtowers, still the unit bug persists.

Right now as I'm typing this I'm reinstalling the mod (I keep a full m2tw folder as backup) so the mod will be reinstalled within the hour, I will post here whether the problem will make an appearance.

    Edit*

So After reinstalling the mod nothing changes; my problem, which was that in the Late Era campaign certain low tier militia units weren't available to recruit once the large town upgrades to city, is nonexistent in the Early Era campaign because low tier militia are the only militia units available. I will have to play through my Early Era to witness the emergence of better militia units to see if this happens again.

It's too bad because Late Era would be fun to play through as well.

For what's it worth, like Cahoma, I've had no issues doing the "easy" Steam fix (replacing one of the Kingdoms campaigns folders with the SS one) after choosing my settings with the ss_setup file.

Thanks for moving my message to the right section Bane , and thanks Gord for the correction on the part with adding the line to the default.cfg file. I am installing the Mod once again and hopefully the changes will work this time . I'll post my result in here again once I've tried it out.

And I am glad to see that people are so willing to help in here. It's lovely
