HOw high would you rank U2 compared to other groups?

I am a big fan of U2, just wondered how people would rank them in terms of the top ten groups in rock history. Do you think they make the cut and if so how high in the ranking and why? The guitar music is incredible to me as well as bono’s voice. Also very poetic messages/lyrics. I do wonder if they are too predictable in their music though—seems to start slowly then rise rise rise to a feverish pitch each song.

Also if you have some interesting inside info on them, I’d be interested

In the top 10 I'd say. Not particularly high up. But defo in there. The band is an icon, they have shown real staying power and been able to move with the times. They've always had good sales and excellent publicity. However, they just don't quite have the zing factor bands like Pink Floyd have.

Somewhere in the mid-30's.
Their first 2 albums where quite good and live they were very good. So "Boy" and "October" = Good, "I Will Follow" and "Gloria" are a couple of my all time favourite songs. Then came "War" not such a great album, after that they became boring middle of the road and then tried to be some kind of arthouse "rock" band....and Mr Hewson is too far up his own arse these days.

I only like about 4 U2 songs so id say top 40-60 range.

Yeah I didn't even know who they were until HansDuet posted that.

Somewhere between the 20's and the 40's. I liked everything up to The Joshua Tree, after that they went downhill and that led to the 'abuse' of their own sound.

pretty much the same.
They've whored out their stadium rock so much now, it just sounds bland and drab

Maybe in a 250 greatest bands list, they is no way they will be in a short list of greatest bands, the only band from the 80s to now that was close to the bands from the 60s and 70s was Guns N Roses but Axl ed it up.

Around the 120's

I liked there first few albums but they sharply took a nosedive in quality. Probably the top 275.

And personally I'd say Guns 'n Roses was one of the worst things to come out of that decade.

Meh, I don't like their music. Plenty of better bands.

are you insane?, Metallica is the only band thats better then the Rose's

They don't have a place in my playlist.

In the negatives. Don't get them in the slightest.

In my opinion an average band with a dickhead for a frontman.
