Audio not working.

I had to buy new speakers as my old ones were no longer working, but on rome total war there is no audio. On medieval 2, and other devices such as music all work perfectly fine, but rome does not. When I tried to switch the audio support system on the rome total war audio options, it says I didn't have the hardware to support the speakers.

As old as the game is, reinstalling is possibly your best option.

I should also add these speakers are quite old in themselves, much older than the broken ones :p

Sorry to bring this up again, I have reinstalled the game via steam. The speakers work for everything else, absolutely everything apart from R:TW, and it says it cannot activate the sound provider for any of the audio options apart from the miles fast 2d positional audio and the directsound3d software emulation, and even though it has no error message, they produce no sound.

Verify your game cache, then. It sounds like a Steam download thing.

It's not that, I checked and I have recently re-installed it.

Find the preferences.txt and delete it. It will regenerate when you start a campaign.

Uninstall the game, delete all Rome Total Wat folders you can find, including the possibily of one in %appdata%, run a registry cleaner, reboot, then reinstall. The Miles drivers are not getting installed for some reason.

Sorry for not replying, I did all you said and destroyed anything in the registry as well. However, I moved it out of program files into my user folder and the sound works once more. Hurrah!
