    Default A question about RR.

Hey all. New poster, long time lurker here.

I have a couple questions about RR in 6.3 (Not sure if supposed to be here or in RR forums or in bug forums so here it stays for now, Obv feel free to move it)

Im not seeing all troops being able to be built in the building browser or in a campaign. Im playing a Late Era Venice campaign and im at 1300AD with RR turned off. I can still only recruit pretty much what I started with.

So my questions are. What years do the counters tick over? What years can I actually recruit the later knight type units (Broken Lances etc etc). I got the gunpowder event pretty early on but I can't actually recruit anything from Gunsmiths either if that means anything.

Also if my RR is turned off shouldn't I be able to recruit say Broken Lances as soon as I have the right buildings and be able to see them in the building browser?

Just would like to know what years these things trigger so I can tell if its worth playing till then (I may have RR turned on but i'm pretty sure I ticked the box when I started this campaign) Or figure out why I can't see the units under the browsers with RR turned off.

    Thanks

Turning off RR causes several units to not be able ever to be built. Bad, I know, but playing with RR is fun and not complicated, you should try it!

RR off is broken, you won't get the new units. Until they fix this you should play with RR on.

    EDIT
Damn you historydude! Emu'd again! Are you watching my every move or something?

Gah. Well thats a bit annoying, Wasted a good amount of time with my campaign

Do you have any idea what years the armour triggers happen?

I should be fine with RR on, I play a lot of EB and thats AoR with reforms just would be good to know what years the new units come out on.

Thanks for the fast replys. Much appreciated.

The main ones are heavy mail at 1200 and full plate in 1380. The new era event is also significant because lots of units are unlocked then, and that's 1300. Half plate's 1310. Matchlock is in 1520 and that's typically when the better gunpowder units start becoming recruitable.

The best way to check is to look yourself; you need to go to the export_descr_Buildings file in your SS/data folder, then read the required events. Then you go to the descr_events in the SS/data/world/maps/campaign/(one or the other-imperial is early) and look for the date number. That indicates the number of turns after the start, that the event trigger fires.

Eg. This is for early era ottoman infantry. Please note I'm using the RR/RC compilation with 6.2 rather than 6.3, but the way you look for availability dates is the same.

    From the EDB: recruit_pool "Ottoman Infantry" 1 0.67 2 0 requires factions { turks, } and event_counter HEAVY_MAIL_ARMOR 1

The event is the heavy_mail_armour 1 event.

    From the descr_event:event historic HEAVY_MAIL_ARMOR
    date 100 115

I don't know what the 115 means, but it's always triggered at turn 100 for me, so 1200 since the early campaign starts in 1100.

You might just want to remember that this actually changes from building to building, so I believe standard archers are meant to be replaced after a date if you have the best archery range, but if you don't, they remain until you upgrade your building.

Cool. Thanks. I knew it was somewhere. I was looking in just the buildings bit, saw the requirements needed but didn't know where to look for the other bit.

    Thanks heaps.

    date 100 115
what this should do is give a range of years after start of campaign that the event happens.
If it hasn't happened by 1215 (1100 + 115) it will that year - more or less.

it's meant to give a degree of uncertainty / randomness but you might as well stick to one date and be done with it.

never use this for initiating faction emergence as you'll not be able to time siege settlements / attacks properly.

Ok, so I just downloaded 6.3 and set her up fine. But I checked no RR. So I need to go back and hit the setup.exe and leave RR on.

However, is there a link to send me to where I can learn about RR and how to play with it?

    Tks.

I just started playing with RR because of the problems with No RR and 6.3 and there is NOTHING really complicated about it. It is kinda complex to understand exactly how it works, but for how it works in the game you wont have any issues understanding it. I love it now. I like that when you smash an army or an army smashes you, you may be in trouble as you cant just build 10 more spearman in a few turns, etc.

There's a problem with playing without RR?!

Well... Can anyone tell me if I need to start a new campaign now or can I just tick RR in the setup.exe and continue my old game?

You have to start new campaign for new options to take effect,I was playing as Kingdom of Leon without RR and I wasn't able to recruit mailed knights but I was able to retrain them .Anyways I found out that RR is quite nice.

aren't we being a little paranoid now?

I must say that after playing with RR/RC on since 6.1 I can't play vanilla anymore... it is fabulous to have a limited ammount of high-tier units in the early campaign and watch the peasants slaughter eachother mercilessly until I decide to ride in with my Miles and Bodyguard to slaughter the little buggers...

Yea its not so bad. Just takes a bit long for me playing with the same few units until you get to the higher tiers.

I am going to wait for a fix for a little while longer and I assume I will be able to use the cheat to create the unit I want, if I need it. Start an early campaign; you probably won't get to advance units that are affected until October anyway, especially if you change the turns to 6 months. (I assume this can be done in SS6.3)

In 1310 you get partial plate.

And coat-of-plates between heavy mail and partial plate
