    Default Quick battles bugs...

    So, I'm in a modding team, we have created a playable mod based on other times than medieval ones, the custom battles works perfectly, BUT ! When I launch a quick battle, the only result is always a battle between ... catapults and others medieval engines, although these units are not available in the mod ! I never see the mod units or other medieval units than siege engines.

    So I want to know if I've to removed the quick battle entrie, or if this bug can be corrected.

    Patience....

    It could have to do with the class of units.
    Don't think it is written down somewhere which units to use, just the mix of classes I think.

    I will check in our mod (no vanilla units).

    Edit: no problem there.

    Two questions:

    1. Did you completely delete the catapult units or just make them un-recruitable in the EDB?
    More on removing units: http://www.twcenter.net/wiki/Removing_Units (RTW info, but should mostly apply to M2TW as well)

    2. Did you inadvertently add no_custom to your new units?

    Concerning the menu modding, I can easily change the options, it's not my matter (yet thanks to =NF= Vasileios_the2nd).

    1) The old units (vanilla units, including vanilla catapults and siege engines) are still in the files, but un-recruitable and coded as "no_custum".
    2) No. Because, as I explained it, the custom battle worksperfectly ; just the mod units, no vanilla ones, so all is right in custom. Just a quick battle pb.

    I'm almost sure unit choice is EDU-related. A good look at some parameters (attributes and recruitment priority perhaps, plus obvious stuff like class and category) should provide some ideas.

    One thing I really don't understand, is why I only get vanilla siege engine, and just them, and no vanilla inf or cav units or new units (inf, cav or art) of my mod.

    Easy to test.

    If correctly set up EDU entries are all that is required, then they will work if they are present.

    But other units set up the same way will work also.

    If the new units don't work then it probably isn't EDU related beyond the obvious. (The 'obvious' being that the game cannot use a unit which is not listed in the EDU.)

    For example, I figure you can just duplicate an entry for one of your siege machines (which are already showing up) but give it a different name. So then if your new siege engine shows up in quick battles, it indicates that new units can be made to show in quick battles and it's just a matter of correctly setting them up.

    I don't know how to adjust the selection of units for 'quick battle'.

    I wonder if it's a hardcoded feature.

    Not much of a help, but I encounter problems with quick battles in most mods. For example FkoC gives me a CTD in each attempt to start a quick battle, save for the occasion the engine is picking a certain river crossing.

    The only thing I ever got in quick battles was a empty ocean or an empty battlefield with a message of both generals dead and battle over. Never got to fight one.

    You can always disable them, by removing the "quick battle" button from the menu.

    I already have this done in my mod. If you have time and mood, I can handle you my mtw2.int file so that you can find what I had deleted before 3 years or so, when I started on this. I don't remember by heart anymore, and I don't have the time for this unfortunatelly

    That would be great, a simple comparison with a vanilla version should show up the changes. Did you change any graphics?

    In this file I had erased "Tutorial", "Quick Battle" and "Historical Battle" buttons under Single Player menu. I hope you have easily find the ones you want.

    I would like to thank all of you for your help.

    The leader of our mod has correct the EDU (I think he has removed the vanilla siege engines from the playables factions rosters) and now all works perfectly. A great new.
    So thanks again, I hope our version 1.0 will be soon terminated to let you enjoy this first trying of "modern times" war on med2.
