My name is Jonas and I'm a 31 year old Swedish guy. I've been registered here at the TWC for almost five years now, finding my way here because of my interest in the games of the Total War series. I’m a big history buff and my favorite era being the world of Late Antiquity, especially the turbulent 5th century. I’m also a school teacher, and I teach history and religion.

I’ve always been interested in all aspects of modding, primarily that of RTW/BI. I started out doing some minor text work, changing and adding names and other stuff like that for the first Invasio Barbarorum mod ( IBFD ). I am currently a part of three mod teams here at the TWC: I am one of the leaders of the Ruina Romae team ( also being a local moderator at that forum ), I’m also helping another member by the name of julianus heraclius with his two mods – Imperium Julianorum ( or SAI ) and Restitutor Orbis over at the IB forums. Finally I’m also doing some 2D and texture stuff for Ages of Darkness 2, primarily portraits but also some minor texture work for the chief unit maker empio.

However, my greatest commitment lies with the Ruina Roma mod. I’m responsible for the 2D and text work such as all new portraits for all cultures, new faction events, new ancillaries, traits, historical events, buildings etc. I’m also our what you might call “PR guy”, managing our previews.

The work that I've been involved in and that has been released can be found in the original IBFD mod ( 7.03 ) and the SOMNIUM APOSTATAE IULIANI. Some of my yet to be released work can be viewed in these two previews:

    The Romans

    The Barbarians

I have basically done everything that you can see in these previews except for the units, they're done by the other leader of the RR mod, Gäiten.

Besides my engagement in modding, I've also tried to nurish my interest in horror movies, especially zombie films. I opened a thread dedicated to the subject in hand ( Thread of the Dead ), but it seems as if there are too few of us zombie fans around to keep it alive... or perhaps it should be dead. Walking dead...

Well, I also try to be helpful and do my best to solve the problems that those who play the mods find themselves in. Due to a serious physical condition of mine, I sometimes don’t have the energy to do as much work as I would want, but I always try to do my best and be a responsible team member of the projects that I am involved in.

    Best regards,

    Jonas

Hi guys, this is the second time I have tried to get Joar within our ranks. He is a well accomplished guy, with a great attitude, and a good worker. He has commitment (sometimes the good modders lack this.) What impresses me more is that he has a physical condition and he still chooses to help out. I really think he deserves the rank of artifex.

The applicant only has 1,500 posts, should be straightforward. I'll start the archaeological dig tonight.

Thanks for the reference application Papa...

Is the mod released yet? I said yes last time and will do so again. But is his mod released? Couldn't check while I posted the app, had to go to the doctor.

It seems like the only extras he has made are more family portraits, some of the stuff he is referring to isn't jet released. I am leaning towards a no but will take a closer look at his contributions before may final vote.

This isn't for this case only, but for other similar cases I've seen voted down. Would it help if he attached several of his modded files for our perusal?

.... It seems much hinges on modding being in the released form so that it can be counted as a community asset. If that is the case then how much has changed since the last application in February? The discussion in the previous application stressed that they wished to see released work as opposed to stuff still in the workshop.

What is the consensus of this board towards modding applicants. Is it firmly towards seeing released works except in extraordinary cases?

Having said this, time to review the baseline qualifications of the applicant.

I'll describe it this way. While previews and screenshots prove the work was done, and I think the work has been done, it is not a contribution to the TW community until the community can actually use it. For modding unfortunately this means releasing work because until it is released it can't be used by the community. Even an alpha or beta release would count as a release for me. For debating the act of posting is the contribution because it can be immediately used in the discussion.

This is just how I see it, I don't necessarily think it's a rule set in stone by any means but more a general guideline to follow except in exceptional circumstances.

    Agreed.

I would lean toward a yes even without the release if there was more in some other forms of contribution. Some content publications, tutorials, or something.

I voted no last time and I do not see much to change my opinion.

In the past, people with unreleased work attached their modding files to their app and passed.

I am voting yes on this one. Even though the mod isn't released yet, you can clearly see his contributions in the preview; I think that, considering his contributions appear to mainly be in 2D and other interface/visual aspects which you CAN judge through a preview, it's acceptable and impressive enough to warrant Citizenship with the assumption he'll continue to do more of the same sort of work and continue to progress and contribute to the community. I can judge those screenshots even without the mod being released; gameplay is harder to judge.

Still, if he didn't have ANY released material I wouldn't vote yes, but he does have some.
