    Default Question about mods/patches/multiplayer

    Greetings

I have played RTW for many years. Played Vanilla trought over and over. After few year pause about year ago played Rome Total War Total realism GOLD. And it was what the game needed imo

I also have been fan of Time commanders (TV serie in 2003 that used RTW engine)

I was wondering is there a easy way (Mod?) to make gameplaying even more realistic by making a gigantic fights and play like 1 player versus 1 player to Time Commander style ?

Way to make your own historical battles?

And is there way to play gampaing map 1versus1?

And i was wondering is the RTR Gold still -the best- version of the RTW there is now? I have BI too but never installed it but i was wondering is platinium versio of RTR somehow better and more up-to-date?
Is RTR Gold best there is by now? I want gigantic fights ! =) and something to play with friends in LAN

Wich versio of the game people now usually playes in online ?

Is there a way to make own map / Gampaing / Battle?

Is there a mod that adds commands that you can give to units in battle field?

    Thanks for answers

You're not asking very much are you?

There are ways to mod the game - see the Rome Workshop part of the forum for guidlines: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=22

It is possible to make your own historical battles - a number of people have done that. It's not that easy to do as it's important to get the balance right as after all no-one wants to play a one-sided battle.

There are some campaigns that can be played on-line I believe - look for the term 'hot seat' I think.

RTR 6 Gold is a fairly old mod by now. It was designed to be used with RTW 1.2 - which is before RTW BI came out. RTR 6 Gold was ported by some fans to work on RTW BI and is called RTR PE (Platinum Edition).

The RTR team itself is working on RTR VII. They have released RTR VII TIC (The Iberian Conflict) which is a mini-campaign that covers the struggle for Iberia between Carthage and the Celtiberians. They have also released RTR VII FoE (Fate of Empires) which is a larger scale conflict in the western mediterranean which features Rome, Epirus and a few other factions.

There are many different versions of RTW mods and indeed vanilla RTW that are used on-line. You need to look in the individual mod areas fo details on who is playing on-line. In order to play MP battles it's necessary to have exactly the same version of the game that other players have.

What sort of commands do you want to issue? I don't think any mod accepts voice commands.

Hotseat campaigns aren't really online campaigns though. Each player takes turns on the same save file, but their turn is fought against the AI.

If you want to play 1v1 against a real player, online is the way to go. There are hamachi networks for various mods too, but for Multiplayer, most people don't like high money (if it's too high, it's called "noob money").

    Howdy again

Thank you for your answers Magic 8 ball and brusilov

I have learned now that RTR Platinium is rock now.And i can make my own battle maps and historical battle with BATTLE EDITOR wich game with 1.3 patch. (This is to ppl wondering same questions as me) and i found in forums Guide to make historical battles.

I have now installed the Rome total war Platinium. I dont see much difference for gold versio execpt i get bit less bugs i assume. I was wondering is the Extended realism good add for RTR PE or is it too buggy and not worth trying?

Sir Magic 8 ball i didint understunt what u ment with "hamachi networks" and that 1v1 thing. And with hotseat gampaing did you ment that you can play hotseat same campaing but battles are fought againts AI even thou you play againts faction that other player is playing?

So is there a change to get 1v1 gampaings. It wont matter to me if its hotseat or lan or online?

And mister brusilov i ment with commands like new command buttons for unit (Example give order to split group in 1 button, throw javels/fire ammunitions targeting area (not units like its now).. etc. totally new commands.

    Thank you for your answers

Ps. Anyone know when RTR 7 comes out?

And can anyone suggest/recommend a good historical map pack?

Psps. Now that i have RTR PE i wonder are other mods compatile with this mod? So i can run them same time having like Barbarum mod with RTR or Extended Creek with RTR without errors?

Hamachi networks are a LAN network that you can play online battles with. Lots of the mods have online Hamachi networks so they can play the mod online. Yes, hot seat campaigns are fought against the AI, but there are multiple people playing, if that makes sense.

So is there a change to get 1v1 gampaings. It wont matter to me if its hotseat or lan or online?

There are no 1v1 campaigns that I know of, so hotseat is the only way to go with that.

Not possible as far as I know, but I'm no modder.

Do you mean for custom battles? Belle from the HoS clan has a very nice map pack she posted on the RCC. It's not necessarily historical, but it adds 100+ maps I believe. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...o=file&id=2883

To awnser some of your RTR questions you might want to click on the RTR VII banner in my signature.

Also there is no set release date for RTR VII we will release when we are ready so don't ask in our forum lol but you might want to play RTR VII FOE or TIC for now so you can understand some of the game mechanics. Unlike RTR Platinum the game is nothing like vanilla RTW and takes som egetting used to. I'm not sure about extended realism but if you ask in their subforum I'd sure they'd love to help

Oh and welcome to the forums

Thank you Magic 8 Ball for your good answers! =)

The answer you gave to my map pack question was great. I was wondering does that "Bella"'s map pack require that my opponents have same files if we play online againts each other with orginal maps (ofc it does for Belle's map)

I was looking for Historical battle map pack for a single player but i assume i have to download those one by one or make my own ones.

And i found that multiplayer online hotseat gampaing is possible Link here for if someone else is interested : http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=160547

Thank you all for your good answers!

The map pack I linked you too works with MP, yes. Your opponents don't need those maps to play them. For custom historical battles, your opponent(s) must have the same historical battle files for it to work. The map pack also contains a skin change for all the generals, so that they look like the generals in the campaign. It's a nice little addition, as far as aesthetics go, but if you would just like the maps and keep the normal generals, only replace the customlocations.txt file.

Well RTR PE started out as a port of RTR 6 Gold - as posted before. There has been some further work in removing some of the inherant bugs in RTW - the 'revolt CTD' for instance.

I'd suggest having a look at RTR VII TIC and RTR VII FoE. The first battle as Carthage in RTR VII TIC is worth it in itself. It's a very tough battle.

For questions on specific mods it's best to have a look at the individual mod threads to pick up what the players think of it. Quite often there are discussions about the balance of the mod but also screen shots as well.

There is no reason why you can't have multiple installs of RTW. The idea is to keep the original RTW install 'clean' - this is often referred to as 'vanilla' RTW.

Create a new folder in the same place as the 'Rome - Total War folder' and copy the contents of the original folder to the copy folder. It's possible to have multiple copies of the original folder on your PC - the limitation is disc space - on most modern PCs this isn't a problem.

You could have multiple 'mod foldered' mods (all the changes go into thier own folder inside the RTW folder - see the RTR VII TIC example below) in the same 'game folder' - but I prefer to have an install for each mod.

The following screen shows on the left hand side a number of different copies of RTW (it's from a while ago):
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Hamachi - allows you to set up a 'private network' or a 'virtual server' to play MP games with other players. It can only handle up to 16 free accounts per sever - that is people who have registered with that server. Unfortunately, if you change PCs you probably lose your connection to that account.

You can password protect the 'virtual server' that you set up and invite friends to join you. If you don't know anyone have a look at the mods part on the forum and see if anyone is playing MP or would be interested.
