This is a modification of Medieval 2 Total War improving the water in the strat map. Basically i used more or less the same procedure for Better Water 1.0 even if final result is a little bit different due to many reasons linked to engine i dont stay here listing. Looking around this community, i noticed that many mods around here are using the same water for the strat map, i mean the one very dark blue one with clouds reflection on the surface. Well, i chose to be different as usual and i created a brandnew water using also the shaders... result is more realistic according to my personal taste even if we have not the cloud reflections of the sea circulating on community.. btw as i said, everything goes following own personal tastes no problem with that.
WHATS NEW:
Shader textures
Normal maps
Specular maps
The difference between open sea and low water is more realistic
Ok first of all you have to make the backup of the water your mod is using, because you couldnt like my mini mod so you can install it back what you had it previously...
so go to
...Medieval II Total War\data of your mod\terrain\aerial_map\sea
copy the sea folder and paste it wherever you want.. this would be your backup in case you dont like my water...
EDIT: with "data of your mod" i mean TATW data, SS data etc. etc.
INSTALLATION FOR MED2 VANILLA:
Extract the folder within the .rar in:
...Medieval II Total War\data\terrain\aerial_map\sea
INSTALLATION FOR MED2/KINGDOMS MODS:
Extract the folder within the .rar, in:
...Medieval II Total War\data of your mod\terrain\aerial_map\sea
OK NOW YOU'RE READY TO PLAY IT....
IF YOU WANT TO USE THIS MOD INCLUDING IT IN YOUR OWN, PUT MY NAME IN YOUR CREDITS.. THAT IS ENOUGH FOR ME
Oh if you like it or dont like it please tell me... as i said everyone has its own personal tastes

From the screenshots it is impossible to notice how good is that (i wanted to make a clip but with 56k it is impossible uploading it).. once in game, make a close up of the water and you will see how cool is that... at least for me ... thanks for the rep
Nice clip man! Unfortunately i cannot watch it in hd because of my connection.. +rep btw
Could you make a video like that, but with camera more close to the water? i dont see the ripples there
I did max zoom And you can see the ripples in HD-vid, but ofcourse it's still a bit blurrier than how it really looks on screen/movement. I don't know how I could get sharper video captured (used Fraps btw)
But thanks again for this, installation took about 30 seconds, and it works like charm

Well maybe the poor quality is because of a free software as Fraps.. btw thanks again for you video, uploading something like that would have required a month here and glad you like the mod
I noticed the cloud's reflection has been taken away (right?).
Why was this doen?
Anyway, it got me wondering, the clouds were never really seen, only their reflection was right?
So how about changing that into a swell? an ocean current, waves, make the seas look real!
I agree that the cloud reflection is silly if you dont see the cloud, but is there a way to change this to a swell? Like atmosphere, or wind rather, effects the seas?

Clouds were easily realizable but i chose to forget this part simply because sea didnt reflect the sky generally. The fact the sea appears almost always blue is a phenomena linked to the absortion of sunlight. The visible sunlight is composed by a light spectrum in which all colours known are contained, from red to blue. Now, the water mass absorbs in a selective way the incident sunlight.. first of all the red disappears and after that all the remaining colours apart the blue. Blue is the one who's able to be absorbed in a lesser way than the other colours present in the spectrum.. all this at least in the surface. If you had the chance of making scuba diving or snorkelling in depth, you will notice that already after few meters of depth reds objects start to be faded!!! Phisical detailed explaination about this phenomena is not that complex but it is linked to optics and refraction of sunlight. In few rare cases clouds may be reflected because of a polarization of radiation and a different water composition as we see with some calm rivers or lakes reflecting the sky.

Swell as waves moving as real waves from what i know is realizable but it requires the modification of shaders in the engine i m not able to open.. fake swell is easily realizable but it will look like flat waves... about wind well it is possible but i dont know how.
