Possibility of Steven Harper being elected Prime Minister?

Here in Canada, Parliament seems to be challenging the leadership of Paul Martin. Soon, they will decide on a none-confidence vote. If the none-confidence vote goes ahead, there will be another election. This will give Steven Harper, Leader of the Conservative Party and Geoge Bush's Canadian Lapdog, a chance to be elected as Prime Minister of Canada. If he does, Canada will become, effectively, an American Colony. We will be slaves of America in all but name. Canadian Soldiers will be shipped off to Iraq, our oil reserves(the largest in the Western Hemisphere i've been told) will be exported to America and we won't even get any money from it, the money will flow into America's waiting coffers. The Union Jack, so beloved by our people, will be torn down from our public places and replaced with the Stars and Stripes, Canada will recede from the Commonwealth. America will rule the Continent. God have mercy on our souls. Is this likely to happen? I'd like to know some opinions.

Well, Steven Harper won`t be Prime Minister. Unfortunately there is no worthy opponent to remove the corrput Liberals from power. And for your information, who do you think we already sell out oil too? Mexico? Union Jack? Last time I drove by a local school or RCMP branch, the Canadian and respective provincial flags were flying. I think you are being a little overreationary when you say we will leave the commonwealth. I hope you were saying many of these things just to get a reaction!

First off, where do you ever see a Union Jack in Canada, and who so loves it? Maybe some easterners, but not us west coasters, and DEFINITELY NOT THE QUEBECOIS! But I agree, if there is an election there is a chance Harper will be elceted, but I'm hoping we Canadians are smarter than that. It also displeases me to say that WBK is right, in that there really is no worthy opponent for the Liberals. We shall see what happens IF and when there is an election, right now I'm gonna focus on Vancouver municipal elections, and wish I was of voting age.

Perhaps this is an opportunity for American to finally achieve its ambitions of the War of 1812 and annex Canada into a grand North American union. They got their arses whipped when they invaded, so they now they are plotting a Nazi-Austrian style Anschluss.

About the Union Jack: obviously you have never been to the Canadian Parliament Buildings. In front of those building fly, the Canadian Maple Leaf, the provincial flags and the Union Jack, representing our British origins. Besides, The Queen is our official head of state, and the Queen's Representative, The Governor General holds most of the power in Parliament. However it's been awhile since I last visited Ottowa and maybe things have changed?

Worse than that as any Canadian knows is the thought they could source into our olympic hockey roster and create a team that would win the gold medal!
