    Default Non-Family Member Generals Questions

    Hi,

What are non-family member generals for? For example, the Crusader States (SS 6.3) start out with 2 family members and 2 generals that aren't in their family tree. Are they just there for extra leaders for armies? Also, if all of your family tree dies, but the generals live, can they continue the family tree? Thanks.

If your Generals win battles it may trigger the "man of the hour event" allowing you to adopt them...

Speaking of non-family member generals....I belive the England campaign has generals named Jasper and Laurence? Are those real people? If not, is there anyway to change their names? Even Jasper of York or something would be better than "Jasper" and "Laurence."

should be possible in the descr_strat.txt which is in the SS 6.3/data/world/map/campaign/imperial campaign folder (not verified solution nor folder adress)

although, I believe that the surname "of York" must be in a .txt that handles names... but I can't recall the name or location for that particular file

True, I think you need to do it before you begin a game though or it will mess up your save...I tried to add a bunch of names to the list, not change existing ones, and it got messed up, so I am not 100%.

"Of York" would mean that he would be the heir to the English throne IRL. If you want to be historical then you will keep you heir to the throne as the Duke Of York. Unless I am wrong, then you can do what you want .

Hmm...well i was decided to do some tests, and created a 1,000 man army for Bohemond di Tarando to fight. I used auto_win attacker since it was a test. Heroic Victory, enemy losses: 967 friendly losses: 4. I repeated this twice more but can't seem to get the man of the hour event.

Ah well, thanks for the answers!

Probably because your family is deemed of sufficient size by the hardcoded script. Kill a few then try it.

You would also have to use a non-family member general or a captain.

Ah, the Duke Of York is the second son of the monarch. Yes you would be right to say that the heir is the Prince Of Wales. +REP for better historical knowledge
