Peculiar lag spikes.

The problem I'm having is that my recently new computer is struggling to play R:TW at a decent rate. It lags and slows down in battles involving little more than a 1,800 vs 1,800 scenario. The graphics which I'm playing it on are around the upper/middle bracket; mostly High with the odd Medium.

Now, this shouldn't be the case. Although I'm unsure if there is anything I'm missing, seeing as I haven't played it in about 5 years. I would describe myself as mentally competent, so that isn't the issue. I'm really lost for words. I can play E:TW and N:TW on max graphics and M2:TW with battles ranging up to 2,000 a side without any noticable lag. Infact, the computer my current one has replaced played it at a better rate.

My system has 4GB of RAM, 120GB spare memory, an nVidia 9600 GT graphics card with 1GB of memory and a quad core proccessor with 2.33 GHZ. The further details are below, if they help. Oh, the system is running on Vista.
