    Default 6.3 Patch

Hi reading the threads it sounds like 6.3 looks sweet and the set up with choice of AI is excellent, but it seems that there are a number of bug reports and these need messing with files, changing scripts, etc, to fix. Seen as I just want to play rather than Mod (when will the MAC version be out? ) I think I'll wait until 6.3 is patched and stick with 6.2 RC4.

Perhaps one of the fabulous modding team could give us an insight to when a patch with installer might be on the cards.

Cheers, and thanks for your hard work, I enjoy it.

I would at least like to see an easy hotfix or something. Fixing obvious bugs that should have never made it past beta testing like the wrong campaign map banners is annoying. I can't complain too much because it's a free and excellent mod, but still.

Thats a pretty obvious step and gracul is already working on a patch from what I've read.
Until then and if you don't want to apply the easy manual fixes you just have to wait
Or you could visit Meneth's Great Stainless Steel 6.3 Compendium 2.3.3 and download the attached zips.
At a maximum thats 2 extractions and the fixes are applied.

Understandable. I'd like to invite you to think about that again. Whats more likely - a last minute mixup in the "gold master" because of minor changes to those files or your theory? And even Starcraft 2 needed a patch right on the release day... I find your assumption of sloppy testing (gracul singlehandedly ran extensive playtests) a bit presumptuous when there is a far more likely explanation at hand Also don't forget that with pc programs there is always something you only discover after release.

I'd like to stress that of those problems reported none of them were gamebreaking bugs (those kind that actually force you to abandon a campaign). I think thats something to keep in mind in regards to the reported issues and especially in comparison to some commercial releases that spring to mind (e.g Silent Hunter 5 ... )

Thanks for the link to the Compendium thread, bane. I hadn't noticed it before. I went to the Bug Reports forum and fixed stuff the hard way. Not trying to come off like a whiner here, I'm thoroughly enjoying SS 6.3 since fixing a few things. Oh and here's some rep

Good luck with the fixes, If I can help in any manner, mostly with boring work like copying pasting things, I'm avaiable, since I do not know almost anything about coding/scrpiting and such. Regards JamesPhillip

fixing the disable RR bug is not a trivial one.
it requires the creation of a new EDB file with all (or as many is decided) event related restrictions included/excluded.
and any armour related restrictions included / excluded.
it needs the entire file checked so you only get one entry per unit type per building per faction at any one time and place.

The banners was just a mix up with one text file. Instead of changing the text file I will be redoing the banner files. Should be done very soon. Not sure of a time table for a hotfix/patch but I would expect it to release pretty soon.

Oi! You mean to tell me that selecting not to use RR is ineffective?

I'm a little lost with this one... How is having RR more restrictive than having it selected.

basically in 6.3 having RR enabled works great but if you disable it certain units linked to events never become available which is a bug but play with RR you will like it.

I play with 6.3 and sub mod compilation and have less crashes than any previous version or vanilla.

I was dubious about RR when I first installed 6.3 and tried playing without it to find it doesn't really work so I redid setup with RR and it actually works brilliantly, all it really does is make it so you have to wait more turns for a unit to be recruitable the more elite / rare it is and also splits the units into eras so you and the AI both end up with realistically balanced armies that fit the time, now I would never play without it, give it a try.

Also if you conquer a desert settlement you get desert units, baltic place baltic archers etc.

yep, when you have to wait longer for units to become availbale the game is better balanced and a better challenge

The most serious issues (CTD on turn 51 and the banner bug) have already been fixed. 6.3 is pretty stable, though not quite as stable as 6.2 (I think ), and has many more nice features, so I'd recommend downloading 6.3
You don't even have to overwrite 6.2, it by default makes its own, separate folder.
A collection of the fixes that have come out so far can be gotten in the Compendium, or in the sub-mod Compilation BTW, links to both are in my signature.

I downloaded and applied the exe installer from bane_tw's signature. Are there any bugfixes I should apply to SS 6.3? I looked all around the forum, but I couldn't find any others.
