    Default Suicide by Retreat???

Curious and nothing more was wondering how often if ever you might have encountered this scenario.

Playing Carthage (as might be expected) both the Julii and Scippi have been fixated in taking Caralis from me. The other day I find three Scipii fleets and the faction leader camped outside the walls. I sally out to dislodge them and the Scipii ride into battle with their faction leader and no one else. My balearic slingers easily repulsed the attack from the safety of the gateway, and naturally they eventually after losing about 10 men and horse decided to retreat. As I was returned to campaign screen I was informed that the Scipii faction was now destroyed. Capua was prior to the battle still in their hands and unmolested.

I have seen in as a result of losing a battle an opposing character lose all his retainers, but never the leader himself for want of a better word committing suicide.

only if he couldn't retreat in campaign map it counts as suicide

He was probably the last family member, and since he retreated and thereafter died, no more family members = no more faction.

I was once an Angel of Total War Heaven, but gave up my wings for a life on the sea of battle.

I'm sure it's happened in the past while I was playing...what struck me about it was that during the battle the Scipii leader made several determined and useless charges at gate. Two years later the Brutii were very nice enough to capture Capua from the rebels and not put them all to the sword. Leaving me a nice bit of plunder as my leader was able to sweep in from the sea and take the settlement from them.

    Yes,

i had that too with Spain. (playing as Carthage)
they had like 5 settlements and they where invading the North (Gaul)
i was bored and wanted to fight a family member.
    1. killed him
    2. spain destroyed
    3. the whole of spain and a little of gaul where now under rebel control.

    srry for my english

Well thats quite funny. In my campaign I never managed to wipe out factions by killing their family members. As soon as you kill any a new one seems to be adopted.

Loosing a RTW campaign? You mean thats actually possible?

    I'm sorry but....

Who was talking about loosing a campaign? Itīs only about AI factions being wiped out cause the leader died with no heirs while there are still towns in their possession left.

And why should it not be possible?
Happened to me when playing the Seleucids for the first time. Only militia hoplits (halfnaked! - no wonder that RTW is the least accurate game in the series) at the start but all four neighbours Parthia, Egypt, Pontus and Armenia decided to fight me after three or four turns ...

Yes I'm sure all of us will own up to some rather stupid moves or unsuccessful strategies during our first few campaigns. I would agree, however, that I would find it strange indeed if anyone here admits to actually riding that burning and crashing plane we were flying all the way until impact with the ground. Isn't that the point of the save and load functions???

How so? You save games to be able playing further the next day.

Do you load your quicksave after every battle you loose?
How boring would be a campaign where you can correct all your mistakes?
