Irish Pope

Alright so i was playing as Ireland on SS 6.2 on VHVH (kinda cheated)
but i noticed after lots of turns that my priests never became cardinals( highest Bishop)
So whats up with that?

PS: i was once excommed by the Pope and my High King got the trait ''Excommed? Ha!''
So i think the Irish and Pope wernt that close ?

bishops and cardinals are not related. cardinal is if your priest is one of the few selected to be a cardinal out of the only (12?) in the world.
a bishop is made when you recruit from an abbey or cathedral, and gives a _1 piety bonus.

ok but cant the Irish become cardinals? because my priests wer like all 9 piety and still no cardinal whatsoever, even when other cardinals die :S

of course they can, but im not sure what decides it, i mean of course after piety things such like papal standing and the such.

Although they are generally tied to papal standing, they can differ.

Suppose there's just many other civs with cardinal worthy priests and you're just plain unlucky!
