FOR MAC USERS!!!!!!
This is a step by step instruction guide to make your Rome Total War for Mac files editable. I recommend making a backup of the game before proceeding, but it doesn't matter that much. Be warned, I am a novice modder, I can only do small things like adding units to a game. I can't create things or anything complicated, so don't ask me how to install an actual mod. This is just a tutorial to make the files editable and in your game. Here it is.
1. In the Finder, locate your RomeData.dmg file. It will also appear when you first install the game. It will be in a "Rome Total War" folder or by itself.
2.Open the file and inside there will be a "data" folder and a "bi" (barbarian invasion) folder. Because of permission issues which can't be changed (trust me, I tried, and wrecked everything) you cannot edit these folders. So you must make copies of them.
3. Make copies of the "data" and "bi" folders, then make a new folder called "RomeData". It will later become your new .dmg file. Put your newly copied folders into this one.
4. You can now edit the COPIED data folders ("data" and "bi") for the game. Add new units, new maps, edit stats, etc. You just have to know how to edit the text files or anything else which you can find tutorials on. By the way, pc mods will work as long as they are not .exe files. RAR files you can just take out the contents and place them in the appropriate places.
5. Google the application "DropDmg" on the internet. Download it and install the trial. Make sure the icon is in your dock.
6. Take your new "RomeData" folder and drag it to the dropdmg icon. The application will proceed to create the dmg file and then save it. Do not interrupt the process or do anything with the any files involved until it is finished.
7. Finally, take your newly created "RomeData.dmg" file and replace the original on with it. If everything was modded and done correctly, it will work. I've done this with unedited copies just to make sure the rest of the process works. You will have a RomData folder left over which you can further edit after the dmg process is finished, and then re drop it into dropdmg. I hope all of you succeed.
For those of you who want to unlock all factions, there are tutorials right under your noses. It is the same process for mac as for pc.

Re: FOR MAC USERS!!!!!!
i mean replace as in take the new "RomeData.dmg" that you created, and stick it in the folder where the original "RomeData.dmg" is located. it will ask you if you want to replace the file, and you click yes
