Icon5 Why is William Wallace shining and all silver?

Are my video settings wrong or is he supposed to be all silver? Speaking of which, I have an open question of video settings, why can't I adjust my settings within a specific save? Once Highest quality, forever highest quality?

I'm not sure about your shiny Wallace...

It might have been a glitch when you installed, try deleting the mod folder and re-installing the mod.

    And via FAQ:

Q: Wow! Battle map is very laggy!
A: If you have an older computer, you may want to your SS directory, and inside default.cfg change "unit_detail=highest", to "unit_detail=low". Why is this by default set to highest? because when using the highest option MTW2 is forced to use models at any distance, instead of using spirites. What were the spirites you might ask? The little funny-looking images of soldiers when you zoom out a little.

Any chance for a screen shot?

I have 6 GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 3.16 GHz processor so I thought highest would be OK, apparently not...I can try to do a screen shot...thanks for the info on turning down settings...I am trying to fight a 5,000 on 2,000 battle and it keeps randomly crashing. As for deleting the mod folder and doing another install, though, would that delete my current saves? And if not and I do another install will WW still be shining in this save?

Yes, but I believe if you take the save files out and put them back in after a fresh install they should work. I'm not 100% sure if they will still work however.

They should be in your C:\Program Files\medieval ii total war\mods\SS6.3\saves.

And I feel your pain on graphics, I still can't have campaign shadows on with no stutter .

Normally the Silver Surfer is a missing texture file I believe.

Why the hell is William Wallace in an English army?

    I highly suggest a re-install.

Going on what chris7ian said, if you reinstall and it still looks like that you might have a corrupted installer package.

If that seems so, I (sadly) suggest a re-download of your installer and all the packages that come with it.

    You can do that?

I can deal with another 10 years of silver WW if it means I lose my save, anyone know if my old save will still be playable? Now I'm wondering if there are other skins I'm missing..although I haven't seen any other silver surfers.

Yeah, that is what I figured...I posted at the same time you were answering...is there a way to make the skin available in an English army?

My English Princess married William Wallace after I took Edinberg to eliminate my biggest threat...I wanted to have a Wallace dynasty and a Plantagenet dynasty...turns out I will have neither. Apparently his son's can't have the last name Wallace since that isn't in the pool of available English names....Edward Plantagenet had all daughters and I wanted to give Edmund a royal marriage so I turned down all marriage offers, which have since stopped, waiting for him to become heir...but old King Henry is 74+ and won't die and now I doubt Edmund will be heir, it will probably be one of Edward's adopted sons....so no Wallaces or Plantagenents, it is folly, maybe I will restart....but anyway maybe he can't have his proper skin, which I'm guessing is blue, because he is in an English army and it has nothing to do with the install?

You can edit the names and put wallace in the names of english name.

How/where would I do that? I probably would have to start over to do that since I don't think he is having children anymore...unless I can edit the names of his children retroactively?

Yes you can marry William Wallace into your faction using a princess, she better have a lot of charm though, basically William Wallace is just a general and no different than any other general as you can marry him away from Scotland. I've done it before, it's cool to make him come into your family tree.

Let me clear some things up.

    • Your install is fine, the Wallace skin isn't meant for England (When I saw the English army I was thinking, what is this guy taking pictures of?...)
    • I THINK that Wallace is a faction specific last name. In a Sicily campaign I got generals from other nations, but they adopted other last names but still ones from their original nation (like De Genova)
    • If you edit anything, your saved game is most likely lost. Dont do it till your done.

I don't know how it works for names but editing the battle_models.modeldb is fine and wont mess up your saved game, all it is, is skins and can be changed at anytime... I've done it and I haven't had problems with it before.

Yes you can add your faction to the skin, I will add it for you and all you have to do is copy the file over, also make a backup of it just in case I do something wrong. Let me know if it works. I was able to start up the game which is good but I am not at a point where I can marry Wallace so you'll have to test it out. If I messed up the game would start and crash as I opened it. Also it wont let me upload it for some reason, PM with your email addy and I'll email you the file.

This is where the file goes
    C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3\data\unit_models

As for the names as far as I know there are three files that have to be edited. I don't know how it would work with Wallace but you could try. The files are:
    Data Folder:
    descr_names.txt
    descr_names_lookup.txt

    Text Folder:
    names.txt

To each there own I suppose. If anything make sure you make backup of all the files you edit as well as your saves...it can save you an uninstall/install again. Anything goes wrong just replace the files with the backed up ones and all should be well.
