    Default Entire family tree dissapeared

I'm playing 6.3 as Leon and my faction heir became a portuguese fella who I snatched away with a princess. I thought that it was a bit annoying but not really an issue. However when my King died, my entire family tree disappeared and was replaced by the first Portuguese king and his wife (both long dead) and nobody else.

So I reloaded and killed off my heir before the King died and everything was fine. But this is a potential game breaker.

It's not an SS bug but something from M2TW itself. It's hardcoded and we cant stop it from happening.

wow never happened something like that! your heir became portuguese???

A portuguese princess seduced your heir? He lost his prince status and titles, for a lesser one, only for love? that princess was really a dangerous diplomatic weapon... she blow your entire dinasty! I hate when princesses attack. How can u prevent such attacks? Killing the princess with an assasin or running away from a dangerous princess?-specially if you have the womaniser trait- or what?

Actually, his princess did the attack on the Portuguese general, who joined the family and later became the heir. When his coming of power was at hand, the game glitches.

Oh! now I understand! that thing was a bug of the vanilla game, I remember read something about that long time ago!So it is very dangerous to marry generals ... if they become kings, game over!

How do you killed your heir? a sucicidal attack maybe? in medieval total war 1 you could kill with asassins your own members... that was cool.

Yeah I just marched my heir alone against a full enemy stack

Kind of sucks that the game can't represent the union of two crowns at all really.

    Why not "kill_character <character name> "?

    Didn't work?

And yes, it would be great to unify the Crowns, but I think that just selecting your heir would be nicer, since it was a R:TW feature and somehow not a M2TW one XD

I never understood why you cant choose your own heir. There is this annoying tendency that the heir turns out to be some useless imbecile who has no children and is therefore a waste, and then I have to get him killed. Which is a shame, because I like having the bodyguard units.

Yeah, that was a feature I dearly missed from RTW.

I'm pretty sure it was proven in a tutorial that Authority chooses the next heir, and considering that authority is a king only trait, it chooses the best leader theoretically, not the correct one. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=257175

I was just found this thread via search because I just experienced this same problem.

I actually wanted this to happen though. I married my Emperor's daughter to the brother of the Faction Heir of Milan. Years later I went to war with Milan and eliminated them as a faction. Once my king died, by a flood in Toulouse nonetheless, he became Emperor and my family tree disappeared.

Is there a way I can swap it back to the old tree?

EDIT: I testing killing off my new Emperor and it swapped back to my old tree, so I guess I can continue on with using him.

You killed the new foreign emperor and it went back? I like that idea, since it could be a change in the ruling family that can revert back

one difference is you are not running SS xP

The same thing happened to me when my Princess married a French noble...I think he was the King of France's son, but not his heir...anyway, I wanted Edward Plantagenet's son to become heir to the English throne so I killed this guy named Odo, who was Edward's adopted son and the current heir, and then I saw it was making Odo's son the heir, rather than Guy, so I killed Odo's son, too, except then it was making the guy my Princess married heir, still over Guy, but at least Edward's brother Edmund became heir, so I didn't mind, the family tree was once again in Plantagenet's hands...that is until I looked at the family tree and all that showed was the dead King/Queen of France...not their children, one of whom would be my Princess's husband, so it wasn't that cool...and Edmund has no sons so I was going to face the same succession problems soon down the road...anyway, that is a lot of unnesecary background information...

I will say, when/if you kill the foreign guy who caused your tree to go away your old tree comes back, BUT it is not as cool as one poster pointed out, it is NOT like a regime change because the new leader's full tree never shows.....the new leader and his wife do not even appear on the tree, just his dead parents...

Anyway, I was able to get Guy to become my heir, finally, I had to boost his authority to ensure it was HIM and not the Duke of York's son (oh, I must've had to kill him, too because York is vacant) but now I have a severe lack of nobles in England...in order to solve this problem I had to start giving Guy and his would-be Princess (Odo's other daughter) moonshine potion to make them more fertile...aka fertility cheats....hopefully Duke Guy and his Princess give me a flock of young Plantagenets...I need someone to sit in York, well every English city but Aberdeen, Exeter and Edinberg, for that matter.
