I have about the same setup and runs great.
    Empire runs great, too.
What part "runs slow"? Is it campaign map, battle map, or end of turn following the ai around?

OK,, It's both the campaign map and the batlle map...

Turn down the resolution and the eyecandy. In many cases, AA and AF do more harm than good, especially huge armies and sieges.

Menu is just a .bik file and a couple of .tga(pic) files and nothing more. The gameplay is entirely different thing. Degrade your graphics settings until you get a more stable 60fps on battle field.

When was the last time you ran disk cleanup and defragged your harddrive?

im having this same problem, ive turned all the graphics settings down to the LOWEST but only lags on battles, even with only 100-300 men. Ive got Intel Core I5 gen 1, 4gb RAM and 2.7 ghz. Ive heard that it lags because MTW2 only uses one core from the processor and if you've got duo core you only get 1/2 performance, Quad-core only 1/4 perf and so-on.

It only uses one core for everyting including the kitchen sink.

Do you have a dedicated graphics card or is the graphics going through the i5 also?

ive got regular Intel HD graphics, and also heard you need directx9 for it to run smoothly but Ive got directx11. its getting really annoying because i can play Empire with all graphic settings full except for vegetation. Is there any quick-fix or long term fix to this problem?

If you have ETW you have dx9, believe it or not as it's XP based, too.

ETW has been programmed to be a little forgiving on the dedicated graphics memory part of the specs. Medieval2 is very unforgiving and the only fix is being able to allocate more in the BIOS unless the manufacturer locked it on you or have a pcie x 16 slot on your motherboard and can afford a graphics card and a power supply to runit.

The last update was the Kingdoms patch 2008 and the next update will be the release of Medieval3.

This we have no control over. Too many years I've dealt with minimum specs or less to play and I've worked for a living. Family comes first.
