Icon5 Anyone else dislike the new TW games?

I started with MTW2 and played it with all of the expansions before I sort of burned out on it and so I got the Napolean game, except it wasn't what I expected at all...for whatever reason I couldn't get into it...the graphics were better, but the mouse movement when scrolling around the map was nauseatingly slow, it seemed overly complicated, the graphics were good but almost too good because when I tried my first battle things were once again seemingly laggy and bogged down (I have a rather new CPU, 6 GIG RAM and dual core 3.16 ghz processor...and yet I played it less than 30 minutes and gave up before buying TW Rome a few days later and now I've been playing TW Rome nonstop...did this happen to anyone else? Should I give the Napolean game another shot? Something about the time periods, factions and the whole package jsut seemed offf....is Empire better or more of the same and should I be giving Napolean a fair chance?

I don't like them same way I like RTW, but I'm TW fan to the heart and would play everyone if my comp was good enough

Complicated? actually the managing of your empire in Napoleon/ETW hs become much simpler. No stuff anymore about family trees, or building guilds, or having 6 different sorts of agents. No tax setting for each province individually, no governors stuff, just 5 ministers, etc...

Well rtw (compared to all other TW games) has the fastest gameplay of the bunch. whether its in campaign or in MP it will always stay dashing. I myself need to keep the camera at 300% scroll speed to watch over all me stuff in MP. its also the whole battle mechanics. Its far more interesting to see a good charge and a nice infantry slugfest than to watch a couple of parade dolls shoot eachother while standing in a line. i dunno man, game just stays fun.. got it in 04 and still loving it.

OK so I am still learning how to play the Napolean game and it is better than I thought, but the fighting still just isn't as fun for me...like someone said, two armies standing across from each other just isn't as fun as running people over with chariots or watching calvary charge into a phalanx of spears...too bad TWR and TMWII don't have the graphics of the new game...I agree the format might be better as I am now learning it, but the fighting style just isn't as cool. I'm thinking the next Shogun game will be awesome, although I enver played the first.

No, Empire and Napoleon are really good. BUT as the guys have already said personally i prefer Rome and Medieval because that form of warfare was more hand to hand...and i loved to see heavily armed troops duke it out at close range. It's more exciting. In the era of Napoleon and Empire that form of combat had been superceded by lines of well drilled men with rifles, standing paces apart in a more gentlemanly era.

Also in Rome and Medieval you get more interesting battles that are culture clashes. For example in Medieval 2 you can fight the Aztecs as the Spanish etc., and that makes an interesting match up (low tech quantity vs high tech quality), or in Rome you can be the Romans versus the Britons etc (high quality troops of good discipline vs lower quality but more fanatical troops). Every faction in Napoleon and Empire are of a similar technological and cultural level so they all do the 'lines of muskets and cannon' approach.

anyway, I like the pace of rome, like max said its alot faster, and men lining up and shooting at each other on a field is a very boring battle to watch. Even though medieval II is a very slow pace it still isnt over simplified and requires some attention to the battle to not loose.

I don't like the newer titles because of their theme and the campaign map.

It is very disappointing that you can cripple a great nation like Spain or France easily, because they don't have enough provinces to delay you.

I also prefer sword and spear instead of muskets, but that's just me.
