I'm tempted to do HRE campaign after my current campaign, I count at least 10 potential threats surrounding HRE that sounds a lot of fun but also have a big chance to be a stressful campaign

I'm still using 6.2 RR/RC though, and only going to do it on H/H VH battle is out of question for me since the AI get attack/defense bonus, VH campaign OTOH is still being considered , and it's going to be an early campaign

so how is your impression from HRE? especially those who already done HRE campaign....

They don't get attack/defence bonuses, even on Very Hard. Only morale, and financial bonuses.

no that is false, I've done tests, foot chivalric knights vs foot chivalric knights (example, same goes with feudals or mailed or any units that could be tested against themselves), exact same stats, grass plains, only clicked at the beginning...

on VH mine always lose, 10 out of 10 rematch

anything less than VH I got MIXED result, as supposed to be, they're the exact same units.

I was playing HRE at VH/VH SS.6.2 RR/RC and won .Nothing special U have very powerful machine and a lot of potential.

I prefer make some alliances in first turns especially with East (Poland,Hungary) .Eastern nations have very difficult units to beat them by Germans.Pay them to make alliance or try to wedding heir...very important!!! and try to concentrate and south north and France.First of all try to destroy Denmark when they are develop their armies are much much better than German units.After that it is pretty easy campaign.BTW some tricks.

Try to build cathedral asap and make spam of bishops.It is matter of time to get German Pope and avoid crusades

Try to avoid excomunication by Pope because U loose very fast so listen him carefully and brake campaign against Christian if it is Pope wish

Try to send merchant to Byzzies.Best cash

When Crusade coming to fast develop at early stage of the game send as many armies as U could - three or four and attack nearby Byzzies province like Crete ,Corinth,Athens,Thessalonica,Cyprus,Rhodos and ... SOLD IT to richest faction in the game (very often Aragon ,Genoa ) or Venice even when Venice is poor.U are make Balkan Total War and avoid attacks from Venice and Hungary side for a long time.Remember sold provinces one by one.U are probably delay crusade but who cares 100000 florins are very sweet Very important is not conquer too much provinces because Byzzies may be destroy by Turks so islands are the best

Do you lose because your units are routing?

sometimes, however before routing (sometimes they fought to death), AI units always killed many more men than mine, that should speak for attack/defense bonus, that also didn't happen on H or lower

so basically I HAVE TO CHOOSE the war, and I must not let being gangbanged from all direction right?

I notice that not many players are using HRE here, perhaps it's too difficult and demanding?

Just use Gracul AI (alliances means nothing and backstabbing is sure thing)) and VH/H (camp/battle) and you cannot win. If you even play with Byg and Germanicu5 additions, you may even see for the first time in your MTW2 life "Defeat" screen in less or much less than 50 turns.

Right about Turn 20 everyone turns on me, and all my allies cancel their alliances with me. I get attacked from Venice, France, Denmark, Milan, Poland, and even Scotland. Around turn 40 I manage to turn the tide a little bit. I captured all Milanese on the mainland, Venice, 1/4 of France, most of Denmark, some of Poland, and even managed to get a little bit of land in Egypt. My troops are terrible, and I relied heavily on Mercs. Due to the rather large cost of Mercs, I have had to implement the money cheat a few times The troop trees for 6.3 are . The best thing I am able to recruit is a mounted Sergent and I have loads of spear militia, which are my best infantry unit I'm playing SS6.3, H/H RR disabled, watchtowers, and Savage AI.

Yeah, Novgorod experience will help him for his HRE question.

IIRC in Gracul SS 6.2 HRE is at war with Pope or excommunicated on campaign VH from the first turn, which means you need to give that rich Italian town as gift to Pope only to start building relationship with Pope, then bribing Pope each turn, then when you are broke and already in war with several Catholics (not by your choice of course), you need all the way to turtle your bordering towns.

You have very strong enemy - France, boring (constant raids) but ridiculously rich enemies - Italians (Genoa and Venecia), fight-to-death enemies Danes, and if you are approaching east rebels too much - Poland and Hungary.

Of course, you need to concentrate on only one type of enemy while somehow defending from others.

Would you like first to go for rich and economy boosting North Italy?

Would you like first to confront your strongest enemy France (just to be sure that you are safe from greatest threat)?

Would you like first to eliminate Danes because they will never ever leave you alone?

Would you like first to concentrate on Poland and Hungary for biggest challenge and then show us on YouTube that you actually somehow did it!?! (because not so fast boost for economy even when you start conquering their towns plus wars on all sides at the same time with France, Danes, Italians plus Hungary and Poland are in 80 percents campaigns allied with each other almost from the start)?

And SS 6.3 is supposed to be harder than 6.2 so good luck! You will really need it!
