    Default RTR:ER with Steam

First, I want to say that I've played this mod since 3.5 came out, and I enjoy it very much; it's the reason I keep playing this game. However, lately I've wanted to try vanilla BI. The problem is, since I'm using Steam, it seems that I can't play the game at all with the mod installed. This includes copying a clean, non-modded version of the game on my computer, then attempting to play the clean version. Here's a quick breakdown of what I'm talking about:

I have 2 folders, one with this mod and one that's clean (the modded folder is a copy of the clean one + modded files). I rename the clean folder to something Steam won't recognize, then name the modded folder to something Steam knows. When I start the game using Steam, the mod is loaded. However, if I switch the folder names, I can't play either vanilla or BI using Steam. Even redownloading the game from scratch in a fresh folder doesn't allow me to play the original game with the mod installed in a different folder.

Does the mod change something in the registry? I can perform the above for other games (M:TW2 and HoI3), and the process works, but it doesn't work for this mod. Any insight into how to solve my problem is greatly appreciated.

BTW, love the mod, waiting for v4.0

    I'm glad you're enjoying it!

I'm curious, are you using St. Naffatun's instructions?

Actually, I'm not using his instructions but the modded version works just fine. I guess I wasn't very clear, so here what I'm trying to do.

I made two copies of the game's folder before installing the mod. I installed the mod over one of the two folders. Theoretically, and this works with other games, I can swap between the two folders by changing their names. However, that doesn't work with the mod installed; if I delete the modded folder (even if it's name is something like "bob" that steam will ignore) then the vanilla game works just fine.

    I see.

You actually don't need to switch folders at all. This is a -mod switch mod, so it doesn't alter the Vanilla files. Just delete the ExRM stuff from your command line (or create a separate shortcut) and you're set.

Thanks, that fixed it. I forgot to change the launch options through Steam.
