I noticed in the description of SS 6.3 that Ireland had been removed.
I'm curious (and a tad saddened) by the loss of this faction. Can anyone clarify as to why they were removed? Or, even better, reassure me I'm not alone in missing them already?![]()

1. Ireland was not a real power in the time line covered; no major impact on the world.
2. Freed up unit slots for other factions roster.
Think it was more for reason number 2.
Bummer. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to actually finish a HRE campaign.
Many thanks!

From Gracul's FAQ:
Q: Hey! You said max faction limit is reached, and i can still see 2 faction slots free!
A: Yep, there is one slot free, but there is not much to do with it, since the EDU is out of units. What's fun in a faction with no unique units? If ever proper room is made, Point Blank will be the one to make it. Increasing the number of playable factions will also have an impact on the turn time, which is already too long.
Ireland was removed since it really didn't do much in historical context, and when played by the AI they also represent that prefectly by never stepping off the island
As for freeing unit slots, there are actually quiet a few ways to do it ... it has been suggested that a lot of units are still redudent / overlapping.
A example I brought up was that we could simply remove the Christian guard units completely, and just give muslim factions the abiltity to recruit knights / foots knights with high level structures in a AOR sense when they hold European lands. obviously this would give Moors the most access of the 4, which would be historically accurate as well. since the Moors did occasionally have Catholic knights fight on their side, even against other catholics, due to variety of reasons, but they were rarely done in a unique unit sense. just your ordinary local knights whose interest happen to line up better with you than your enemy.
Another would be to reduce the number of knights units , especially the more generic onces, and simply use armour upgrade to represent the difference in stage.
also, some of the North European and East European generic units are completely the same, even down to the graphics, yet cost two seperate slots.
Saracen Milita and Arab infantry are also too similar, might as well just remove the saracen and make Arab infantry a unit for both city and castles.
The same could be said of the some of the more generic units , for example peasant crossbowman vs crossbow militas and levy archer vs archer milita.
1180, an unprecedented period of peace and prosperity in East Asia, it's technology and wealth is the envy of the world. But soon conflict will engulf the entire region with great consequences and lasting effects for centuries to come, not just for this region, but the entire known world, when one man, one people, unites.....
*sleepily walks back into the thread*
Well that makes sense! Thank you for the clarification.
*sigh* *glares at the torrent reading 97.5% with 20 minutes remaining*

Oh don't worry. I'm very grateful for the torrent since I'm on wireless and can't download anything from Megaupload without losing connection and getting an error. There were around 27 seeds that I was getting when I finished. I plan on giving back.
I'll upload screenshots once I choose between early and late.

No unit slots left? Honestly, I think the rosters from 6.2 were fine. I don't see the need for new units, except perhaps the Byzantines. No, I haven't played as every faction, but still. I'd rather have 6.2 rosters with free slots for another faction... Georgia, I don't really care about, but if it's what the people want.
Or is it not that simple? Probably not.
