    Default Bishops?

    Hey guys,

I remember coming across this in vanilla some years ago but forgot the explanation.

In 6.2 + RR/RC I never saw a Bishop, but having installed 6.3 the first 2 priests I've recruited as England have both become Bishops. They look different to priests and cardinals; I'm just wondering, what triggers the trait, and are there any specific advantages/disadvantages to having them? How many can you have?

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Also, the trait says that they command a local dioceses, and should it be lost he'll be stripped of the title... If both bishops were recruited in York then which diocese does it refer to, or is it an 'empty threat'?

You used to get bishops by recruiting them in a settlement with one of the much bigger churches, and if it were destroyed they lose the 1+ piety bonus. but it seems that you get an unlimited amount of bishops from even the lowliest church... which bothers me as well... maybe a bug?

This is a feature, not a bug.
In vanilla MTW you got bishops for creating priests in a settlement with a cathedral - stupid eh? Now you get bishops for every major diocese(meaning every settlement).
But if you have for example 3 settlements and 5 priests, you'll only have 3 bishops.

That's very cool (I wondered why I was making Bishops out of nowhere to)!

I'm playing as the Byzantine Empire, and I got a Patriarch from a small Orthodox Church (after making many bishops (in different places), how is the spawning of Patriarchs determined?

    One per Orthodox faction.

Thanks for the reply. Shame it's only one per Orthodox faction; it would be great if you could have one per Patriarchy (as in, if you have Constantinople and Antioch, you can have two, and so on), would that be possible (I was thinking maybe I could dabble in making a submod that did that)?

Ohh. Thank you! But is there any way to know which priest is tied to which settlement?

Can't be city of origin, because I made 2 bishops from York.

I'd say either the last one thats created or the first one in line gets demoted on loss of settlement.
Its unneccessary trouble to bind the priests to a specific settlement when you can just compare the number of priests versus the number of settlements and then loop over until one bishop is found that can be demoted, demote him, and then break the loop. That said if anyone finds out I'm curious as well.

Given that the promoting/demoting of bishops is determined in the campaign script, I'd say linking a bishop to each region if at all possible would require a ginomagantuan script

In that case, I'm fine with having it a tad random

Am I getting this right: As the Byzantine empire in SS6.3 I can continually have 1 patriarch, and 1 bishop per province? I'm currently on SS6.2 RR/RC, and i only seem to be producing regular priests, which can't compete with the avalanche of catholic bisshops flooding my territory!

I realise that, that's why I said "SS6.3" - My question is whether my understanding is correct, that in 6.3 playing as the Byzantines I will not only get priests (as in my current SS6.2 RR/RC ) but also 1 bisshop per province, and 1 patriarch in total. Cardinals I obviously wouldn't get, as the Byzz are not Catholic.
