Hate to break etiquette, but as I know my answer is correct I am going to post my new picture now as I won't be near a PC to post one till late on Saturday (will be around to comment though, on my phone).

Hard one so should keep people guessing (and if someone could rep me for the last photo I'd be much obliged)

Evelyn McHale, 1947. Jumped from 86th floor Empire State Building. Because of this photo, has become known as "the most beautiful suicide".

    *I can't rep you yet.

If you've been paying attention to my recent posts you'll get this one easy. Need the name for ID of course, but I'm paying the point on the factoid that ensures his place in history.

You have a fix on the name Simon Bolivar This is Simon Bolivar Buckner Jr.

For the factoid I'll try this : He was the highest US military officer to have been killed in second world war. He died of an artillery shell on the final days of the Okinawa island assault.

    He was a lieutenant general.

Correct on both points. The highest ranked US officer KIA in WWII. He is also the son of Simon Bolivar Buckner, Guv #30 of Kentucky previously posted. This ends my sequence of Simon Bolivars' - I found it interesting how many of that name found themselves a place in history. There are a couple of others who also found fame outside the military realm. So, if you're looking to get your kiddies off to a good start......

    +rep and you go.

This is not really an historical figure but it is a man I find myself thinking each time something "unlucky" happens to me !

That Selak guy really needed to stay away from modern transport. I hope he bought a horse with those winnings.

Looks like Franz Reichelt (sp?), the dude who killed himself by jumping off the Eiffel Tower with a homemade parachute suit. I guess that class in the History of Aerospace Engineering was useful for something after all...

Correct! Back before Health and Safety went mad Health and Safety was sat on a sun lounger drinking G&T's.

Good job! He's sort of the father of Pan-Islamism, and one of the reasons why Arab Nationalism is so lukewarm.

Someone please rep the man for me!
