    Ryutaro Hashimoto?

    I'm afraid not.

Hint: This guy was pivotal to the rise of current public enemy #1 (or so they say...)

The funny thing is that this was actually my first guess... Zhu Rongji, who was largely responsible for China's economic success in the 1990's and in the 2000's. Later became Premier under Jiang Zemin. He was actually chosen for this position because of his ability with macroeconomics. No doubt, seeing as he did not get along with Jiang Zemin. He is up there at least in significant economic developments during his time with Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping, and Zhao Ziyang.

    That's right!

The meeting that occured between Zhu and Clinton helped paved the way for China's admission into the WTO. BTW, have you noticed that Zhu along with several other senior members of the Chinese leadership (Including Xi Jinping) had engineering backgrounds (Zhu worked in the Petrolium Industry for a time and Xi studied Chemical engineering)?

    Your turn.

    An often forgotten revolutionary general.

Well I suppose you refer to Colombian revolution

    Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera ?

From what I can read about him, he was a mean politician, no doubt about that

I never specified which revolution. He was a general that served under Simon Bolivar. Later when Simon Bolivar was exiled Mosquera served as an officer in the many civil wars. Finally starting his own civil war, taking over as president and putting the Liberals into power.

He must be Count-Duke Olivares. 17th century Spaniards are easy to spot, because of their distinctive gollila.

    My guess:

This is Charles II of Spain.

Indeed he is! With the advantage of good old 21st century hindsight, he has both a significant historical and biological legacy with the former being that his very existance was arguably the catalyst for the War of Spanish Succession, the latter being that he is the classic example of imbreeding gone horribly wrong . If mother nature had thought us mortals anything at all, it is that imbreeding sucks .

Charles is correct! He's pretty badass, because diplomats kept predicting his premature death, but, he managed to survive until his middle age, despite his grave health issues. The subsequent succession war might have been avoided, but the king and the aristocracy were adamant that the Spanish Empire should have been inherited undivided by his successor.
