    Default EB alteration question, Help!

I'm new to modding and I was wanting to combine the best of what I like about the various mods I play into one.

With everyone's permission I would like to add the the "Free People" faction to my EB mod thus replacing the Saba faction (original Senate faction slot) with them.

I believe it will better use the empty slot to spur sporadic conflicts amongst the factions instead of just the mojor players going head to head mid-game. The theory is to create buffer "allied states" between elite empires and be able to use diplomacy and such to accomplish this.

If that's okay, I need to know what files I need to modify to go about creating this.

    Personal modification are always allowed.

You can learn modding in the threads about modding RTW on this forum in the Rome Workshop.

That's not an easy task you want to start with...

Wait, you want to add the free people, remove the Saba AND maintain the rebel faction?

It's harder than just modifying a few files... altho i don't know the specifics (which are best asked on the roma surrectum forum or by dissecting the roma surrectum files) about free people, it involves disabling recruitement in cities conquered by those "free people" by a complex mixture of AOR and MICs.

And you would need to modify (at least) export_desc_units, descr_regions, descr_strat, EBBS_script, export_descr_buildings, set new MIC buildings for the free people faction.. and you would probably encounter a problem as the EB team stated that their EDB file is completely full.

i'm not sure the complexity of EB is well suited to adding a free people faction if it was not planned from the start, which isn't the case.

Don't want to discourage you, but...

I want to replace the Saba (who use the freed up Senate faction slot) with the "Free People" faction as in RS. I would still keep the slave "rebel" faction due to it being hardcoded.

I want the "Free People" to have starting settlements that use units found in the respective cultural areas, i.e. Greeks around the Mediterranean, barbarians in the north, eastern in the east, etc. BUT only be able to assimilate other factions buildings when they take over another territory.

Thereby, creating a buffer between factions. Their units would be comprised of only mercs found in their respective areas.

I just need to know what files I have to tinker with to accomplish that.

Well, it's not really that simple as "tinkering with some files"... You'd basically have to rebuild part of the game.

Siegfriedfr gives some of the the files you need to tinker with.

Needless to say, it is going to be a lot of work. And it is not something someone is going to able to quickly show you.

Patiently learning how to mod and doing it yourself, is all that can be done.

well since I don't want to go about changing the whole game (that will be to hard for a noob like myself), how do go about implementing the smaller tasks mentioned above?

i.e. merc only recruitment, "nomad" culture (limited building capability), armies guarding their settlements?

I guess I will just try to recreate the historically greek settlements around the coasts of the Mediterranean.

and never forget that in EB, part of reforms and recruitment options are done by script, the AI are just too idiot to understood they should build MIC's and those will involve creating all new MIC system for those "Free People" faction, a tough job since the "Free People" faction in EB wasn't planned from the start...

    Good Luck with that!!!

Rome Total War modding is no joke. I needed a huge amount of help from generous people on this forum JUST to change the conditions of the Roman military reforms, which I thought were ridiculously too high/distant. It certainly gave me an appreciation for the amount of work that goes into mods, let alone one of EB's scale.

I guess it makes the CTDs more understandable. too.

Same here, modifying roman reforms conditions were my first footstep into RTW modding!
Somehow it also requires you to play the game extensively to understand what's going on...
