Icon5 How do I edit generals

I am using the Third Age Mod and I wanted to edit some of the Generals in one of the factions so its more accurate according to lore. I tried changing it in the descr_strat file in the imperial campaign area, but the campaign won't start when I edit any Generals here. It just brings me back to the single player menu.

Exactly what I want to do is:
-Edit some of the generals ages.
    -Edit the faction leaders children.
    -Change the faction leaders wife.
-Change the battle model and the model on the campaign map for one of the Generals. The model already exist, but is used for a General of a different faction.
-Last I want to change the Generals bodyguard unit for some of the generals.

Also is it possible to edit how long a character lives for?

    Thanks in advance

    Yes it's possible:-
The first three changes are possible by editing a file called descr_strat.txt

And i'm sorry bro i'm really stressed out and i'm going to sleep now. Search the tutorial section all the answers lie there.
I'll check this thread in the morning and tell u everything.

Using England from the vanilla campaign, you need to edit he appropiate entries in desc_strat.txt

    Code:
    character William, named character, male, leader, age 50, x 109, y 147
    traits Factionleader 1 , GoodCommander 1 , Intelligent 2 , VictorVirtue 3 , PublicFaith 2 , BattleDread 2 , StrategyDread 2 , ReligionStarter 1

    character Rufus, named character, male, heir, age 26, x 109, y 158
    traits Factionheir 1 , LoyaltyStarter 1 , NaturalMilitarySkill 1 , GoodCommander 1 , ReligionStarter 1

    character Cecilia, princess, female, age 25, x 111, y 151
    traits IAmPrincess 1 , NaturalPrincess 2 , GoodPrincess 1

    character Robert, named character, male, age 24, x 104, y 134
    traits GoodCommander 2 , LoyaltyStarter 1 , ReligionStarter 1

    character_record Matilda, female, age 49, alive, never_a_leader
    character_record Henry, male, age 12, alive, never_a_leader

relative William, Matilda, Rufus, Cecilia, Robert, Henry, end
Any general not named in the 'relative' line isn't a family member and can be given any age. But those in the relative line must have their names listed in decending order of their ages.

    The format - relative(tab)father,(tab)mother,(tab)(tab)1st child,(tab)2nd child,(tab)3rd child,(tab)4th child,(tab)nth child(tab)end

nth being 5th, 6th, 7th etc for however many children you'll be adding.

To change their names, you'll need to look up the names list for the appropiate faction in desc_names.txt.

Also is it possible to edit how long a character lives for?

    Nope. That's hardcoded.

Also, you can have the children married and with children of their own.

Using England again, suppose you want Rufus married to Avelyn and with sons called Richard and John.

You would add character records for these three people and a new 'relative' line for his family.

    eg -

    Code:
    character_record Matilda, female, age 49, alive, never_a_leader
    character_record Henry, male, age 12, alive, never_a_leader
    character_record Avelyn, female, age 19, alive, never_a_leader
    character_record Richard, male, age 2, alive, never_a_leader
    character_record John, male, age 1, alive, never_a_leader

relative William, Matilda, Rufus, Cecilia, Robert, Henry, end
relative Rufus, Avelyn, Richard, John, end

-Last I want to change the Generals bodyguard unit for some of the generals.

To change the models used for strategy and battle maps, you need to edit descr_character.txt

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Code:
    faction papal_states
    dictionary 15
    strat_model southern_general; default level 0
    strat_model pope ; level 1, faction leader
    battle_model Northern_General
battle_equip gladius, chainmail shirt helmet and rectangular shield

Just change the "strat_model" and "battle_model" lines to the same as the faction you want to copy. (ignore the "battle_equip" line, it's a remnant of RTW and is not used in M2:TW)

There are hardcoded limits but the 'familiy-tree' section of descr_campaign_db.xml is where you will find the settings.
