    Default Anyone tried this before?

I've been playing RTW again lately with Darthmod, and I wonder what happens if you're not a Roman faction and destroy the SPQR before the Roman Civil War. I remember that for a faction to win the civil war it has to capture Rome from the SPQR. Anyone tried this before and can tell me what happens?

when you attack rome it starts the Civil War, so oyou can't take Rome without igniting that blood filled rampage across the continents.
Even if you take ROma early, the other factions will still be there to fight you to the death.
Passing on to describe the way in which Napoleon employed ‘principles’ or ‘ingredients’ for the prosecution of War, it must from the outset be understood that his strategical and tactical systems followed no closely ruled pattern. Every operation was unique; no two were ever quite the same. However, the underlying every Campaign and battle were certain fundamental, which were applied according to circumstances.
‘Strategy is the art of making use of Time and Space,’ wrote the Emperor”

If you're not a Roman faction it's just a settlement you need to take to win the Imperial Campaign. I'm not sure what happens if you're playing as a Roman faction and the SPQR gets destroyed though.

Plunges you into the civil war. Anything involving the death of SPQR leads to the Civil war. Thats how the trigger is set up.

So if you take out Rome and then leave, the other Romans will just fight amongst themselves? Interesting...

Yep. I found it wierd in vanilla. I took Rome with a good sized army as the greeks. I snuck past the guard army by sea. Once I took rome the ex SPQR armies defended me unintentionally from the Civil War which Erupted amongst the romans. Although I was not saved from the Brutii trying to expand into Greece, It became a lot easier to defend myself.

Is there any way of triggering war with the Senate prior to having enough popular support? Like failed assasinations or something?

Not in the vanilla game. There is no relations between country modifier (that I know of).
