    Default Hybernia: Total War Proposal

I was thinking that since Ireland gets left out of a lot of mods because of their lack of a unified front during the middle ages. Why not have a Ireland mod featuring the many Kingdom's and Fiefdoms of Ireland, and scripted Viking Invasions, and later Norman?

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

EDIT: Also I would like to have a new type of unit. Like a generals bodyguard unit but a separate unit then the general. The Cú Faoil unit or Irish Wolfhounds. "During the English conquest of Ireland, wolfhounds were trained by the Irish for war; their job was to catch armoured knights on horseback and separate them from their horses."

I think there's lots of total war mods

    Kingdoms of the Isles
    Princes, Kings and Heroes
    The Last Kingdom
    Arthurian: Total War (BI)
and also put in Gods & Fighting Men: Total War in to the Arthurian search.

and if you went a other Irish mod, theres notting stoping you making one.

I haven't played these all so I not making any judgments about their authenticity. I would like to play a mod focused only on Ireland during the time period of Brian Boru through to the English conquest. As Peter pointed it out you could have High Kings elections, as well as various other features scripted in. Also you would have more than just Connacht and Munster. On the map I provided shows a possible 17 factions and some other aren't even mentioned like Thomond.

Viking invasions could be scripted in as well as Norman increasing in difficulty as the game progresses to where Ireland must unify to be able to defeat the foreigners or succumb to their oppressive rule. I for one would think this would be an amazing mod and one that could increase the authenticity of medieval irish military units. In the mods I have played the Irish military was lacking unit types, play the whole game with one type of archers. I blame vanilla kingdoms for this.

I do not have the modding knowledge or tools to build this mod by myself. I was making a proposal to the community so If others were interested in such a mod that they might be able to post here and be able to gather a team in order to do such a mod.

This is a good idea. Not many mods would actually feature all five Irish kingdoms.you could have scripted events such as High king elections.you could script norman armies near Dublin and wexford.I'll help you making this!

@ Peter and Philip: Let me do some more research, if you guys have any links to medieval ireland that would help please post, and give a little more detail to my proposal. If you look at the Kingdom of Thomond, Brian Boru's Kingdom, they always get ignored and their lands are given to Munster. But if you look at the map in the spoiler above and go through the major time periods, the Kingdom of Munster is called Desmumu. I haven't researched this enough for lack of many good quality sources but I suspect the Four major Kingdoms didn't control all of Ireland. I sure some territories were still controlled by local Clans and Chieftains.

I stress this is only a proposal no set time periods or faction list has been developed. I think starting the mod at 950 with vikings having some settlements like shown here, http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlkik/ihm/ire900.htm, would be best time to start. The 5 Kingdoms would be the largest Kingdoms but the Kingdom of Thomond as well as other could control smaller territories. These would be less developed settlements in rural Ireland while The five major factions are more developed and prosperous.

Now go to the next map and the other Kingdoms added in would be the smaller less developed rural Kingdoms. Some are based off certain clans and others are not.

Larger Kingdoms: Larger territories, key ports and castles, more trade
    Norther Ui Neill
    Southern Ui Neill
    Desmumu
    Laigin
    Connacht

    Tweener Kingdom:
Thomond - Brian Boru event would make them a more prominent faction, and First High King elected

Lesser Kingdoms: Smaller territories, often no water access, buffers between larger kingdom, often controlled by a single clan
    Ulaid
    Airgialla
    Breifne
    Ui Fidgente
    Deisi
    Dal Cais
    Osraige
Conaille Muiktemne - spelled wrong possibly couldnt make out the print
    Dal Fiatach
    Dal nAraide
    Dal Riata
    Cenel nEogain
    Cenel Conaill
    Viking

20 factions altogether. If this were to happen I would like to use all 199 regions, to support all 20 factions, with a map as big as possible.

Why not use the mod the last kingdom as a base for this mod?
