Default No change after editing txt file

    Hello guys,

I am no modder, just want do 'tweak' a few stats of the turkish sipahis.

The only txt that does that is the export descr unit.txt also called edu.

I scroll down to the sipahi en edit for instance:

    stat_pri 8, 2, cav_composite_arrow, 200, 50, missile, missile_mechanical, piercing, none, 25, 1

I edit the total range they can shoot and the amount of arrows they have.

But i see nothing change, the range is the same and the arrows deplete as fast as usual.

What am i doing wrong here?

The game is original, updated to 1.3, unpacked everything...... game is running, also in battle map...

did you run the bat or enable the game to use your modded txt files?

there should be instruction in the bottom of the txt in the tool folder

Put the following line "--io first_file" without quotes in your medieval shortcuts or
make a batch files withe the follow command line: "medieval2.exe --io.file_first

delete both descrt_geo files before u run either

if u don't do that the game simply run the original txt files in the packed

Finally..... i didnt know you had to 'activate' the extracted files :/ I have quoted the instructions you said just for simplicity sake:

    - To use the modified files create a batch file in your
    Medieval II: Total War folder

    - In the batch file add the following line

    medieval2.exe --io.file_first

    - NOTE: Due to a timestamp check, the following unpacked files will
cause the game to crash and must be deleted before the game is
    launched:

    data\descr_geography_new.txt
    data\descr_geography_new.db

    - Save the batch file and then launch Medieval II: Total War using the
    newly created batch file.

I created a .bat file, named it whatever i wanted and placed it in MTW2 root, ran it and the tweek i did for my sipahi is now in effect.

I thank you for your help

Wow! With a 200 range and 50 arrows you should be ready to make shishkabob (sp in english) or shashleek (phonetic Russian). I think that the number of arrows and javelins that come in the game are ridiculously low. Can you imagine being an archer in a castle and having 20 arrows? Or going to attack/besiege a castle (even a tiny one) with less than 50 arrows? Did a bodkin arrow weigh 5 pounds? I don't think so. If'n I were a Mongol horse archer I'd be taking along a lot of extra shafts before I left home. You can always retrieve heads and refletch them, but where will you get a straight piece of wood if you invade Iceland or Kansas?

Make sure your changes took in the original file. It could be that the file is read only. Right click and select properties. From there, uncheck the read only box. Then edit the file again and your changes should apply to the game.
