Very nice cover!
A painting I did for an irish ambient album. It is depicting a scene from Irish mytholoy, the death of Ferdiad. Cu Chulainn kills his friend in battle and holds him as he dies.
I cannot believe I have missed this unique and varied artist. Almost feel a need to apologize. Great work and what a shame that so many of the links no longer work.
Beautifull. Looks like old coloured and painted church window glass.
Cause tomorrow is a brand-new day
And tomorrow you'll be on your way
Don't give a damn about what other people say
Because tomorrow is a brand-new day
Thank you! I really appreciate that.

Yes stained glass is a big influence so well spotted. Check out Harry Clarke, a fellow Irish artist but from 100 years ago. Im a huge fan of his.
Thank you for the tip with Harry Clarke.
His illustrations for Christian Andersen's fairy tales are beautiful.

Was the scene in post #451 inspired by an Irish ethnomyth or historical event?
Yeah man, they're unreal! Also check out his stained glass work. Its some of the most amazing stuff you'll ever see if you see one in person when the light hits it.
For the painting i wanted to draw irish mythological heroes not as cliches, half naked with no armour like they're marvel heroes, but as how Irish noble warriors might have actually looked, well groomed, chainmail, helmets, colourful garments etc.
Also Ireland no longer is really a religious country, but our mythology has survived for millenia, so i wanted to give our mythos the same reverence as we once depicted god and jesus, it is sacred to our culture!

It is in or around the second century BC. We aren't really sure how much of it is based on real people or events. It was passed down by word of mouth until 800AD when it was written down. We know it is inspired by real history because wars were often fought for cattle back then as one of our main sources of food and wealth was dairy.
This tale is from a book of stories called Táin Bó Cúailnge.
A war literally fought over a bull, lol.
The story about Cú Chulainn and Ferdiad is actually really sad, they fought for 5 days, not wanting to kill each other. Mending eachothers wounds at night and eating together. Cú Chulainn eventually killed Ferdiad in a war rage when Ferdiad started to better him. And Cú Chulainn carried him to the Ulster side of the ford and held him as he died.

I like this part of Clarke's Geneva window:
