    Default Running R:TW on Badass Computers

    Hi,

    For my birthday last month I got myself a very good computer

    Unfortunately it runs Rome: Total War like crap. I've heard a lot of reasons for this, like only one core being used or other issues with compatibility. I was hoping that someone could give me some tips on how to streamline my R:TW, especially where high-end mods like Roma Surrectum or Europa Barbarorum are concerned. Should I just resign myself to never playing R:TW on this new computer? I had all these grandiose designs of playing this old and treasured game on ultra-mega-settings but...

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Close all of your background processes. Then when you load the game hit ctrl+alt+del go to the process and set its priority to realtime. It helps my cpu a lot.

    That suggestion did help a bit - the game is actually playable, though on somewhat low settings. If anyone else has any pearls of wisdom to impart I'd be grateful.

    Hmmm well you might want to turn off the anti alliasing. If you have an integrated graphics card (what comes stock on most cpu's) then it won't run that feature verywell.

    @Remlap - They have a GTX260 as shownin post #3.

    @Revan - if you want to close a lot more background services I'd suggets using IOBIT's Game Booster software. When you put it into 'gaming' mode it will close a lot of Winidows services which you probably won;t have shut down before using msconfig.

    What resoluiton are you using - is it the native resolution of your screen?

    What version of Nvidia drivers are you using?

    I looked up the specs for his graphics card. There is no way it should be lagging with Rome.

    Unless the game is so old, it's doing it. Remember the game is backward compatible to Win95/98. Fifteen year old ancient history.

    Yeah, hmmm Perhaps you need to run the game in compatability mode for windows xp. If not then idk what to tell you as I would be all out of ideas.

    Well I don't think it's a question of too many things going on at once. I can run modern warfare 2 on highest settings without a hint of lag, with Vuze downloading stuff in the background and a half dozen IM services running. As for my drivers, I'm not sure but I guess I could check to see if they need updates. It does happen to be the native resolution, 1920x1080x32. I also have the option 'Widescreen' checked in the R:TW video options, because my computer screen is obviously a widescreen. I also tried running the game in Windows XP compatability mode, as well as as administrator. I guess with all of the suggestions I've squeezed yet a bit more performance our of my computer. RS2 Beta is apparently playable, and that's the heaviest mod I know of, graphically speaking. Still no amazing graphics though but I guess I can just be resigned to that and hope for a Rome 2: Total War soon.

    I've heard of certain emulator software where it can trick your computer into thinking you're using a different version of Windows for certain programs, but I don't know where to find them, if they'd even help, or if for that matter they are even legal
