Default Assassins to saboteurs-the useless bums

I don't know if it's hard coded or not but could the assassins be given a bit of a boost. The way that they're now they're largely useless as assassins. What works is sabotaging. I utilize agents a LOT and have many Master assassins around my borders, thought the thing is my best assassin can't take out anyone other than a dipl or a spy. Even their worst generals give me at most 10% chance.

On the other hand today one of my two best generals(the eagle collector even) got whacked by a newly made dacian lowlife assassin. I might as well rename them to saboteurs as that's the only thing they're good for.

I once destroyed the Roman faction by assassinating the faction leader, so assassins aren't totally useless.

Trust me 1% chance succeeds more than you would think, ive killed quite a few powerful enemy generals by just spamming assassins and using them until they succeeded, but that was in the old days im too lazy too do that now.

Well imagine if the assassins were similar to those of Napoleon total war, in the later years of my campaign on that basically every single one of my generals was killed by assassins(or whatever they're called on napoleon) just popping up all over the place.

I do agree with you James. I use my assassins solely for clearing out enemy assassins and then destroying enemy cities.
I have a lot more fun with spies I've come to find out... Putting a full stack of em in a city and you get over a 100% chance
of the gates being opened... Not bad...

Yeah love the spies. Tho not against walled cities, since the gateway still fires shots at ya. Not sure if it drops oil as well.

It does, so it's a very bad idea to go through open gates...

But very fun if you put a unit of pikemen out front of the broken gates and watch the AI run into a wall and burn from the oil. I think I had 4 casualties to their 2500 or so in that battle.

Assassins and spies are a lethal combo.

I recently started a Pergamum campaign, and allied myself with Egypt (ptomely - sp?). But I wanted their cities in Anatolia and in Cyprus. So I sent 5 spies into a city, then sent assassins to blow up all of their happiness-buildings. Within 2-3 turns all of their cities revolted and I could siege the rebels and take the cities without going to war on my ally.

Aye, a terrible idea So a spy managed to bust open the doors but not mess with it's defenses as well. Spill that cauldron of oil on the ground or somethin'

my favorite part about agents is that spys can cause a city's public order to go down to the point of rebellion. that way you can take an allys stuff without getting at war with him!
"WE WILL SMITE THE INVADERS FROM OUR SKIES! Though they sweep over our lands like the sands of winter, never again will we bow before them; never again endure their oppression; never again endure their tyranny. We will strike without warning and without mercy, fighting as one hand, one heart, one soul. We will shatter their dreams and haunt their nightmares, drenching our ancestors' graves with their blood. And as our last breath tears at their lungs; as we rise again from the ruins of our cities...they will know: Helghan belongs to the Helghast." -Scholar Visari

I'm pretty sure you can't cause riots with spies with the AI. Happiness drops at first but then just stops. Once I've had 10 spies in a city and they're happiness stayed firm at 110%. Spy after spy didn't lower it.

^ I've caused several cities to revolt with spies. You need to blow up all the "happiness" buildings.

That's where assassin come in, with at least 5 spies and about 3 assassin doing sabotage work, you'll be able to revolt most cities. Provided that that there are no faction members with public order traits or none at all in the city.
