Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, a comedy-ballet, was performed for the first time in 1670, before Louis XIV. It is written by Moliere while the music is composed by Jean Baptiste Lully. The main role was played by Moliere while Lully was the Turkish mufti.
Vincent Dumestre and his Le Poeme Harmonique ensemble have created what I believe to be the closest thing to a historical reconstruction of a Baroque entertainment. The music is so great, on the same level with the actors' performance. Highly recommended for those of you who enjoy pre-classical music.
There are various fragments (unfortunately) on Youtube, some of them with English subtitles. The whole play is 3 hours and a half long.
