    Default replacing bodyguard unit,with viking nobles

    dont know if this is the wright place too ask.but as i trying too fix some problem in some mod.i am trying too replace a bodyguard unit with another one for norway,the new bodyguard unit call viking nobles,it works but only for the general\family member,but not for the heir and factionleader i have try too replace the battle_model too for heir,factionleader but this seems not too work,everytime i wanna do a battle with the factionleader and with the heir,their is a loading bar but when its almost finish its ctd.

    Just make sure the unit is the highest general_unit in the list. It should be that simple.

    so every thing i did was wright?only the general unit schould be first in the list?do you mean in the export_descr_unit,where the unit viking nobles schould be the first bodyguard unit of all the units listed there?thanks for help

    I didn't really look at what you did, but I didn't notice you say the magic words that dictate success: 'It's the first in the list.'

    If it's first in the EDU then it's the bodyguard for that faction.

    Yes Taiji is right whichever general comes up first will be taken as it's default general for that faction.
    But if u recruit it through EDB then it's the upgrade that is the second general in line for that faction is created.

    thanks for help,the strange thing is that its working for the general\family member,but not for the heir and the king,can it be the battle_model?as the general is using the captain_norway and i think king is using viking_general,but i try too change the battle_model for king\heir,too captain_norway like the general is doing,but it seems not too work.i can play easy a battle with general\family member but not with the king and the heir before the loading bar is finish, its ctd.but look in mine spoiler what i did in mine campaign script,the export_descr_unit and descr_character.i was too read a tutorial how too change battle_model and then he says the only way too see the changes is too use the batch file io-file,but do not find that batch.as i now maybe mixed up too manny files,i hope i can make it work.

    I know i'm bit haywire Taiji but i love it.
    What i was saying is that suppose there are 2 bodyguards for england X, Y.
    And are arranged like this in EDU
    X (attrib=general_unit)
    Y (attrib=general_unit, general_unit_upgrade)
    So by default the X unit will be be the bodyguard unit for England.
    Ok u know this part.

    Now if we put the bodyguard unit in EDB file so that it can be recruited in the campaign map then always the Y unit appears for the general not X and the unit is not a captain but a brand new non-family general.
    So like if Y is dismounted type then the recruited generals will have dismounted bodyguards.

    Aaargh! You're making my brain hurt, Ishan!

    This is what I know so far:

    general_unit_upgrade does absolutely nothing.

    If you have an example where this is proven to be incorrect then please show me


    Sorry Stevie, but Ishan has already made my brain hurt so bad that I seriously can't bring myself to try to read your post. It's also something to do with your way with punctuation. Maybe I'll come back later when my tolerance is back to normal levels.

    Your EDU entry lists 2 upgrades and only 1 model:

    armour_ug_levels 2, 3
    armour_ug_models nor_hr_norsk

    Remove the ', 3' or add the extra model and test.

    Also this descr_strat line is a bit messy:

    character Haakon Sverresson, named character, male, heir, age 20, x64,y185,battle_modelcaptain_norway

    Missing spaces and 'battle_modelcaptain_norway' as one word...

    If you think that one of your issues may be down to specifying a bugged model in descr_strat then just leave it unspecified to test.

    thanks for all the help, i learned alread much.wel i tested it but it works only for the generals but not for the king,and the heir,if i wanna play a battle,then before battle,the loading bar is almost full,when the game ctd.
    if i try the king and heir too give battle_model haakon_general maybe that will work, i found this entry for the battle_model:is the entry correct?

    I checked it just now and u are right
    general_unit_upgrade does absolutely nothing.


    Anyways i was mislead by the vanilla EDU coz by seeing the below entries
    NE Bodyguard 3,4 (Armor)(attrib general_unit)
    NE Late Bodyguard 5,6 (Armor)(attrib general_unit_upgrade)

    The 2 unit can only be used in the EDB for some unique gameplay kinda of way.

    Your BMDB entry is a little bit wrong
    Your entry should start by this
    14 haakon_general
    and always end by this line
    16 -0.090000004 0 0 -0.34999999 0.80000001 0.60000002

    edit:i have found out that the entry of :unit_sprites/norway_Oneill_General_sprite.spr, -the norway_Oneill_general_sprite.spr does not excist can this be the reason its ctd?

    thanks for all the help,but it seems no matter the changes i do ,the mod\game simply dont show it in the game,i have too less knowing about modding,and i dont wanna lose all mine hear lol.if i could rep for the help i wil,sorry for your time.

    The rep button is just next to the 'report' button, underneath a forumposter's avatar.

    As for losing hair, it's a learning experience, so the rate of hairloss actually becomes less and less with time. In fact I suspect that when you get really good, some of it even grows back!

    lol,thanks for the help,it looks that the ctd is causing by norway_oneill_general_sprite because all the battle_models for norway kings,heir have the norway_oneill_general_sprite,and the file is missing so ctd.gonna see if i can push the rep button.i found the button and push it plus rep for Ishan and Taiji

    Yes if a sprite file is not present in the corresponding path the game will crash when trying to use the unit in battle map.
    Notice the 6400 highlighted in blue in the below line.
    74 unit_models/_Generals_and_Captains/Norwegian_King/haakon_general_lod0.mesh 6400
    This is the actual distance in game until the model is displayed by the M2 engine.
    So from 0-6400 we will see the .mesh file of the model after that when the distance is increased the sprite files are rendered if they are not present the game will not load in the battle map resulting in a CTD.

    Also i have checked in my extracted British_isles and i was not able to find the sprite in the sprites folder.
    So u can use a different sprite file that belongs to Norway like for eg:-
    norway_dismounted_feudal_knights_sprite.spr
    So try this and plz give us ur feedback.
