    Default The Dúnedain of the North (WIP)

    I was wondering if it is possible to change unit recruitment times from one barracks level to another? For instance i want to make an Eriador mod with the Shire, Eriador and the Dunedain as three factions in which you must protect the weaker two as the dunedain in order to be Arnor.

    The main problem is that i'll just have the dunedain, mounted dunedain and rangers as the roster and i want to make it so at level 1 or 2 barracks you can get rangers but they take ages to reappear in the unit pool and there aren't many of them but as Annuminas grows the amount of rangers available increases. Would the best way to do this just be to have 2 different units ie "Rangers" and "Rangers of the North" and just make the recruitment offset different?

    You can have change the time needed to wait in order to recruit a new unit when you upgrade your barracks. This is an example of the recruitment of the unit Rangers:

    Code:
                    recruit_pool "Dunedain Rangers"  1   0.08   1  0  requires factions { turks, }  and hidden_resource dunedain
    The red number marked in this line is the amount you get each turn you pass. When you collect an amount of 1 or above, you can recruit 1 unit. For this unit you need to wait 13 turns until you can recruit it.

    And that changes with the barracks level? Excellent if it does

    I was also trying to change the culture make-up of a settlement? Nothing i do changes it.

    Yes it does .

    What do you mean by culture make up of a settlement? How the settlement looks like? Like for example elven, orcish etc...?

    No, the percentage of a culture in the town etc. eg 90 melkor 10northman changes to 50 melkor 10 northman 10 elves 30 dwarves? i was sure it was in G:\games\Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age\data\world\maps\base\descr_regions.txt? But it does nothing? And theres no specific file for the imp campaign?

    So it is the base/descr_regions? but i changed it and it had no effect? Is there a temp file i have to delete (like the map.rwm)?

    I do not think you fave to delete the map.rwm. I have changed it without deleting it.

    As far as I know, you need to delete map.rwm when changing dscr_regions.txt. Try deleting it and see if it works .

    Hey if your planning on making a Dunedain faction, I have a good Aragorn portrait you could use if you want. Its a picture of him during the scene at Caradaras(spelling?) when Frodo drops the Ring. It looks a lot more Rangerish then his Rivendell gown of course.

    Here we go Hope you like them. It took me forever to figure out how to make custom portraits but I finally got it.

    I'm very interested to see where this goes. How will you handle arnor? If you keep the other factions free of conquest by turn x, they become yours? I'm a little concerned about splitting Eriador into three factions and using one to protect the others, solely because the AI can be... unpredictable.

    That's is the thing; the AI probably won't be able to handle this as Eriador. But lorewise i doubt if eriador would have stood the full might of the OotMM or OoG.

    Can you at least upload the changes you have done so far? (Making Barrow-Downs rebel/mordor, changing bodyguard to rangers, etc)

    Remember that the 30 men of Gray Company were mounted and well armed with mail armor and sought shields.

    Actually, have you considered asking Ozzy to use his Wight model for the rebels in the Barrow-Downs, rather than using Ringwraiths?
