Atlantis found on google earth

I dont believe it, but how can I debunk it? It looks convincing and I'm in a discussion with someone where I claim Atlantis has never existed and was merely an example for the perfect society in Plato's Utopia!

He Claims it could have been real, that the world and history have many unexplained things like pyramids in several parts of the world, manny mentionings of sunken cities, and then now there's this



I mannaged to debunk everything he said but I can't find an answer for this that might satisfy him, I said it could be a natural formation creating an optical illusion just like the famous Mars face, but he doesn't accept that explanation

Uhh..how deep are the areas that he highlighted in the ocean? How many thousands of feet? Usually cities are built on islands instead of...nothing, which is what the highlighted areas look to be. So, either Atlantis was built on an island and somehow the island itself disappeared while the cities outline did not over several thousands of years (which makes absolutely no sense) OR this supposed "Atlantis" was built on the ocean floor (which obviously is not possible). Some believe, as I do, that the Thera Disaster was the cause for such tales.

Thats the most convincing theory. I think the legend grew to enormous complexities in describing an ancient culture washed away. Eventually they were described as being extremely advanced.

Two things to realize when looking at the lines in the earths crust via google earth are: The mid-Atlantic trench does indeed cause the crust to crease for many many miles in long lines and secondly, the images are stitched together from satalite images and sonar scans from ships on the surface of the ocean. Each sweep of these scans forms a line that could potentially be construed as a geographical feature when stitched together, but is really just the edge of the scan.

Ramashan pretty effectively stated the points that were gievn even further validity by Wizav's link, and of course Lord Rahl pointed out the inconsistencies with the lines even if they weren't made by the sonar mapping process.

Fact by told, though, even if those sharp lines hadn't been an artificial construction of a sonar mapping process, the right angle isn't as foreign to non-human earth as popular culture would have you believe, and incredible artificial looking naturally occuring ... things... happen all over the world, at a moments notice I'd probably point first to the Giant's Causeway in Ireland.

Beyond that, volcanoes make some pretty freaky looking things on the earths surface. But the size we're talking about... those city blocks and boulevards--if that's what they're be presented as--would have to be huge. The article Wizav linked to said the size of Wales, just looking at it compared to the Canary's makes it look a lot bigger than that. If there was a civilization that was capable of creating such a Corescant sized city, wouldn't one conclude that they'd have other architectual remains on some other place instead of centralized on their little island of a continent? Even if they were incapable of conquering Athens without angering the gods as the myth goes, why wouldn't they have urbanized (at least in the size and scope we can fathom) as least small parts of coastal Western/Central Europe, or the North African coast that has such naturally well-designed harbor regions?

That is not Atlantis. That news is very very very old. Just sonar waves released by ships scanning the bottom, as explained by the same Google and Navy technicians

Wales very own sunken kingdom legend. I have have seen the forest of Borth myself and the sight of trees underwater at the coast is somewhat unnerving.

well we can't say Atlantis doesn't exist its a very rude mistake, well its like Troy of course the tale may have many unreal-fantasy elements but this doesnt mean isnt based on real place and event, so we thought troy didn't existed and bangggggggg was found, so i think atlantis will be too but of course this may not be exactly like the tale describes. i would place my bet between greece and cyprus !
