I know that most players prefer using less units with stronger stats by upgrading them, but I recently began to wonder if that's truly the best thing to do. Lets say I take a unit of Urban cohorts w/ no upgrades and using the money left over I take a unit of Legionaires or Triarii. My opponent takes a Urban Cohort with g/g upgrades and has no money left over. In the battle, my Urbans engage his urbans, while my triarii run around and flank them. I know that the enemy's urbans would eventually destroy mine, but because I have more units, I can be more flexible. If the situation calls for it, I could pull my triarii back to protect archers from cav, flank, or fill up a break in the main battle line.
Which one is really better? Having high quality units or having reserves?
(Applies mostly to 10k and 15k battles)
