    Default DirectX 9c or 11?

I use Windows 7 64-bit, and I currently have DirectX 11 installed. I've been running ETW and NTW pretty well, but occasionally get the odd vid glitch (not often...the most frequent are invisible soldiers at medium distances, happens about 50% of the time). My vid card drivers are up to date for my 5970.

I've read that ETW/NTW don't use anything beyond DirectX 9, and that Directx 11, while in theory is backwards compatible, does not necessarily do the trick for ETW/NTW. I've read that in order to run the game properly I need to install Directx 9.

    Questions:

    1. Are the things I've read correct or myth?
    2. Is there any downside to using 9 instead of 11 (assuming I don't play any other games at the moment)?
    3. Can I have both installed at one, or do I have to choose one or the other?

    Thanks ahead of time!!

    Cheers,

    Nanny

You can have both empire cant play DX11 unless you manual Override which is a bad idea.

DX9 is a must when you install direct X it should install both and everything else also just because your card can support DX11 does not mean it can play everything in DX11 empire is a massive NO.

Of course you need DX9 and DX11 Just Update Direct X And it will install everything for you.

Not much else to say ..... If the game is supported then DX11 will be set auto unless you changed it to Manual in the CCC.

What are you talking about, manual override? Do you even know what DirectX is?

Don't worry mate you are running the game in DirectX 9. If you don't believe me go to your System 32 folder and delete all the d3d9/d3dx9 dynamic link libraries and try to run ETW. You can re install DirectX 9 to see if it helps with the problems but I doubt it.

My advice is to download the dx9 no matter what backwards compatible people say. From what we see everyday that fix a lot of things, and has all the necessary dlls

ok thanks! I looked into this, but, oddly, I am having trouble finding out just how to dl it...the microsoft site was confusing and useless...I feel stupid, but on this one I need my hand held (I just couldn't get directx 9 to install while I have 11 on my computer). If anyone who has done this on Windows7 could tell me how they did it, I would be very appreciative!

I've been playing CoD 2, KOTOR, Broken Crescent, Roma Surrectum, Fallout 3, and a bunch of other older games on my home comp and/or laptop with Win7 & DX 11 installed, so you'll be fine.

In any case, if you really want DX 9.0c, try here.

There is no such thing as backwards compatibility with directX. During a game install if you don't already have the version of directX the game requires it will install it for you.

You are right CS i installed Hitman 4 the other day and i didn't installed the DX9 that came with it and when i launched the game it said error some .dll file was missing.
So after that error i installed the DX9 that came with the disc and then it launched perfectly.

I made the same mistake once too

That's the easiest way to learn I guess.

You can't downgrade your DirectX--sorry just checked. Trust me if you didn't have DirectX 9, ETW will not start, try it for yourself delete all the directX9 related dynamic link libraries in the System 32 folder.

    ^^that!!

Now there are some components from dx9 and 10 that come pre installed on dx11, thats why people say its compatible, but there are a few dll that are going to be sorely missed. So install the damn dx9 already
