    Default Your Legion arrangement

I started this thread to see what different legion arrangements people have come up with. For example, do you have different setups for a legion in syria as opposed to a legion in germania? Do you have a template that includes siege engines of any kind?

Here's my universal setup, nothing to original and IMO historically accurate:

    9x legion cohorts
    1x first cohort
    4x auxilia
    3x archers/skirmishers
    2x legion cavalry
    and of course 1x general

This setup works alright for me So how about all of you guys? I'd be very interested to learn about any arrangements you have found to be particularly advantageous to a specific situation.
"So parents...hold on to your hats...the federal government is gonna give you 400 dollars for every child you have...so if you've got 1,000 kids...you're on freaking easy street. That's where you go, what is the government thinking? I mean wha, what do Congressmans' children eat -- MITES?!? All 400 dollars does is remind me how screwed I am; You'd be better off if you're Congressman just came to your door, and pissed on your foot."

    yeah pretty standard set.

But for a twist i get the details of old battles, generals own personal preferences for legions or info. from books on the period.
i also like to have some of the politicos in my army like tribunes, governors etc especially if their province is the one being defended, make the damned nobles fight i say...
    definately adds flavour.

Simon scarrow's stuff is awesome, Bernard Cornwall is good (for med2&emp. stuff though)

Bernard Cornwell is a stud. His books are so bomb...

I haven't read this Scarrow guy though... He sounds interesting.

As a rule of thumb I try to compose all light infantry, skirmishers and cavalry of auxiliaries, except for the general's bodyguard of course. Anything about the local terrain or environment that the legionaries find difficult to handle should be easily dealt with by the native auxiliaries.

This also works well because those units are the ones that tend to suffer the most casualties when I use them, and are good expendable troops. They're much cheaper and easier to recruit than standard legionaries in almost any region, so they're easier to replace.

    First cohort
    9 cohorts
    3 Auxilia
    2 Light Auxilia or archers
2 cavalry of any kind i can scramble together (Usualy some sort of auxilia but not uncommon to be Mercenaries)

As a campaign lengthens i will merge cohorts together and replace with more auxiliary units. Ranged troops and cavalry are often Mercenaries as I rather neglected to build good cavalry and archery facilities in my empire...

I use my own composition I developed long before I started playing RS that's always worked for me.

    1 General
    1 First cohort
    6 Regular cohorts
    4 Legionary cav
2 Auxiliary light cavalry if available
    4 Archer auxiliaries
    2 Siege engines

If it isn't broken, no need to fix it.
