Much as I do not own Napoleon Total War, I still feel bringing this up again is a necessity. If CA/SEGA feel that they can now begin to lie to a loyal fanbase that has been going on for 6+ years, as well as the thousands of people who own the game, then something inherently wrong is going on. Yes, I am talking about the uniform editor, which has recently been brought up on the official forums. 6 months later, and all there is is silence. Not even a statement. And may I remind you, CA, that the product is still advertised as having this feature. Now I am pretty sure this is against UK consumer laws, and much as I hate sueing and all that, perhaps they need a small but forcible push in the right direction, as it is obvious that mere questions and requests are not doing any good. So I would appeal to anyone who is moderately familiar with this set of laws (as CA is a british company) and knows/ is a lawyer to perhaps do something about it- not necessarily taking them to court, but threatening them would do the trick methinks. And any money made could be a donation to TWC

I understand that people are mad and sad because they lied to you about Unit Editor. Maybe not, maybe they will release this but I personally dont care about unit editor, I didnt or I dont in future too. There are many other things what this community needs. These things are modding tools and I think if people can choose between modding tools and unit editor, then they will choose first one. I hope same that someone takes up this case and goes to court of law. But are you sure that man can win CA?

Would Slashdot care about this? It's got a fairly well-known developer of a very well-known series and consumers being lied to (or at the very least, misled), and (to my eyes at least) it's more interesting than another article about "New Open Source project to do X begins."
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy how's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

There will never ever be a unit editor, CA only ever promised us an uniform editor not unit editor.

Isn't that what people are referring to when they speak of the 'unit editor'? Anyway, that doesn't detract from his argument that CA promised and advertised something and has so far failed to deliver or clarify.

Yes well an unit editor would have more options/capabilities than an uniform editor.

I do agree that CA did promise and advertise it and that they owe us an explanation.

Yes CA are dreadful at customer relations and keeping them informed of whats going on with things like the unit editor. They are legally obliged to provide it as it is advertised with the game....

You volunteering to sue them, then? I guess they could make a good case that most games aren't released as advertised so you'd have to expect something like this. Sad but true.

I don't think a uniform editor is coming, and I'm fairly sure that all it'd allow you to do would be changing the colors on uniforms.

Thanks really made me laugh. The box doesn't mention it so that would lead to a tough time. Would LOVE to see you go to court with this one.

While CA cannot really be sued about this, no way in hell that would work. For the sake of customer relations and brand face they should at least update us on what is going on. They never gave a timeline. "Shortly" is open to many interpritations. MP beta for ETW was "Shortly" as well and that was what 9-10 months after release?

To be honest though not enough people give a crap, so we will probably never hear of it again. Personally not too bothered, but see the point.

Ah yes, the fabled unit editor promised shortly after release

Just wanted to address some of the points in the thread title, there will be a unit editor, it will be released shortly after Napoleon.

We're currently working on the idea of a demo, what's most important to us now is polishing NTW for release, a demo depends on that effort.

As for BAI, it has indeed improved since ETW, it isnt nor will it ever be perfect, but it offers a stronger challenge than it has done previously. There's no conspiracy around hiding it and we'll try to have some community members play against it in NYC to give you all a better impression.

Again, expectation is key. You chaps (and ladies) are our more hardcore players so whilst you will find it an improvement over Empire some of you will still want a harder challenge. Thats what the drop in battles, multiplayer campaigns and online battles are intended to do.

    Kind regards,
    Kieran
    Twcenter.net.

Of course, the interpretation of CA's "shortly" is in the eye of the beholder, however I think a reasonable person would feel 5 months has been enough time.

Also, notice how Kieran says "unit" editor and not "uniform"? That leads me to believe it's more than just palette swapping.

The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire: Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release.

Besides unit editors, weren't we also promised bagpipes? Where the hell are the bagpipes, CA?

We were also promised initially upon the announcement of Empire ragdoll physics, dismemberment, blood, soldiers in their death throws on the battlefield, and terrain deformation but that never happened did it? The community had to create blood mods, the supposed ragdoll physics that are in the game amount to little more than scripted animations that units follow through with (with some minor variations in how they die here and there), and we had to wait to Napoleon for deformable terrain. I doubt we'll ever see dismemberment or ragdoll physics in a Total War game ever. My point being in light of all this: don't believe everything you hear. Especially from CA.

The Uniform/Unit Editor was advertised as being part of the game on Amazon, Play.com and also Steam I think.

First thing to do would be to put in a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority and see what they think about all this.

If anyone can find other sites advertising Napoleon with the unit editor, please take a screen grab of it and post it here.

Lets get a portfolio together, then we can submit that complaint.

I'm pretty sure any site that sells it will have it on there because it's like... the sites just copy and paste what they're told to advertise it as haha.

I would be surprised, but I am not. I love their games and all, but their lack of updates and sometimes lies put a bad taste in my mouth.

.. yet I would still buy any game they put out.

totalwar.com itself still has uniform editor listed in the features (though i wouldn't be surprised at all if it just disappeared like the mod tools section on Empire's page)

Well spotted, I will add that one to the list as well.

I'm sure that Creative Assembly is hoping that those still interested in a uniform editor will forget about it. I'd be quite surprised if it is eventually released though.
