Reinstalling

Is deleting through Add or Remove programs then installing as usual the way to go or will this have some side affect?

you will have to remove manually the scripts folder, how to:

press: windows key and R

type: %appdata%

go to CA folder and delete the ntw folder

this way you ensure that nothing stayed behind, and I prefer to use the uninstaller from steam
