    Default Marian Reforms In VII?

I noticed in the FOE Faq it said that Marian reforms would be included when the GC comes out if possible. So my question is will they? Id love to see what the RTR team could do with some new legionaries considering how good the pre-marian look in FOE.

Actually, I'm not sure about the Marian reforms. But there will be reforms for sure, for multiple factions

PS. I fixed the title of the thread if you don't mind

What do you mean by " not sure about the marian reforms " ? The main thing i missed in rtr was that the marian time was completly ignored , without offence , even if i know that it dont really exactly fits in your timeframe , im sure that a loooot of people like to see them in campaign

That means we're discussing if we want it.
It has to be realistic to have these reforms, and they're either not in our timeframe or they are only just in our timeframe (which leaves the question do we spend so much time for something at the end of the campaign). In RTR VII you would have to conquer almost the entire map as Rome for this reform to be realistic. So yes, it is possible they get implemented, but no I'm not sure they will.

I'm pretty sure the units will be featured in Custom Battle, even if they don't make it into the campaign

They most certainly will feature in Custom Battles at least, MoTtie. In fact, a Marian Legionary Cohort and First Cohort have already been added to the Custom Battle lineup in the FOE 1.4 Patch, so you can actually fight with a Marius legion now.

    Rome - Marius Reforms

Please note that the Equite is not included in the FOE 1.4 patch - it wasn't ready in time, sorry!

Personally, I would like to see the Marius Reforms occur in RTRVII, especially as it's likely to be our last big project using the RTW engine. We may have to introduce them earlier than is historical but we wouldn't be the first mod to do so. I think that if we link it to triggers that reflect the actual historical conditions that caused them in the first place, and as most people's empires expand faster than the originals, then we can justify it. We'll see, eh!

I don't think it would be very fair on the other factions if Rome just got better units at a set date. Marius may have given Rome reforms to it's armies, but Marius wasn't unopposed, and Rome was sinking in and out of civil wars. To accurately represent the Marian reforms there would also have to be a drop in public order throughout the Roman empire and possibly a shadow Roman faction aswell.

Those are not the smallest demands

PS, nothing will happen at a set date, except the start of the campaign and it's opening battles. So far everything else in RTR VII is event controlled.

... what's ac? Do you mean AD (anno domini)?

FYI: It's called BC (before christ), and Marian reforms happened around 107 BC.

Btw., for everybody who likes to have a proper display of post Marian reforms gameplay, then i recommend the FRRE mods.

Absolutely! I can thoroughly recommend 58 B.C. - Caesar Imperator. Play as Caesar himself - it's epic!

AC is, I do believe, Spanish for BC.

In fact it is portuguese and, referring to marian reforms and 107, it is obvious that it means BC, I guess... I already know FRRE, thanks, it was about RTR VII I was asking, since I believe graphics are not comparable. Just my opinion. So, what will be the time frame for RTR VII?

Edit: Ok, already saw the answer, thanks Pat.

hey Guys, so just to get this correct, the campaign map does not allow you to go faaarr east?

Not as far as in RTR 6, but you can go all the way to the West coast of Asia Minor (ie Pergamon, Rhodes, etc). Also, the map will be a lot bigger than the RTR 6 map, which means it is far more detailed (and imho much more beatiful).

PS: a bit off-topic in a reforms thread, don't you think?

Our Chief Historian, HamilcarBarca, has pronounced today that we "Can't NOT have the Marian Reforms" in RTRVII. So there we have it, the matter is decided, our Marian Legionaries will make it into the campaign after all. All we have to "argue" about now are the triggers.

Perhaps use that spare faction slot for a Roman Populares shadow faction, whose uprising would trigger a series of problems for Rome e.g lowered public order, and of course, because Marius one of the main Populares, the Marian reforms.

We don't have a spare faction slot

(not without a real lot of modding the settlement plans, pathfinding, buildings etc)

Does that mean that certain faction with no units or regions in the campaign is going to get units and land? Yay!

    No, I didn't say that

I said it would be an insane amound of work to enable that faction slot, as it's being used for another purpose
